I’m sorry this is more tedious than the one click purchase option on other upscale sites. This is more like a yard sale–bargain prices, changing inventory, and limited quantities.   You might be surprised at some of the unique items I have in my stash/hoard/collection!

Swiss organdy strips...$5...10 strips 4-5" wide x 12" along selvage... 3 sets available

I laid in a supply of these quality baby knit blanks when I wrote an article for Creative Needle magazine entitled “Stamps.”  The basic concept was to applique’ and embroider tiny squares, like stamps,  on children’s garments.  Tomorrow, I will re-run that article/post and have available free machine embroidery designs for the “stamps.”

Here is another “department” in the store.  These books were all carefully selected for my personal needlework library, but I long since have run out of shelf space.  So these are moving on, like old friends.  There are more to come.***************

Belles and Beaus patterns were first designed and marketed by Betty Rast of Alabama.  They were a staple of most heirloom stitchers’ pattern collections. Years later the business was sold to Judith Dobson who added more designs to the collection.  The patterns for sale below are all unused, though a little shelf worn from waiting to be made up.    Intended for hand embroidery, their unique style and techniques can often be reproduced or tweaked with machine embroidery.

The price for each is $8, less than their original price years ago and far less than their value.

Heirloom Lace Edgings

"Queen Anne, Queen Anne, has washed her lace./ (She chose a summer's day.)/ And hung it in a grassy place/ To whiten if it may." 1940 Home Arts magazine cover

******************************

Heirloom edgings, some French, some English.  1 yard minimum, no increments less than 1/2 yd.  All at least 90% cotton, 10% nylon, some 100% cotton.

E-28...$3 per yard....1 5/8" wide...white

E-27...$2.20 per yard...1 1/2" wide....white

E-27 mimics filet crochet.  I bought this at an antique store, but I can’t guarantee that it is an antique.  It is very pretty and unusual.

E-26...$1.50...1/2" wide...white

E-26 is a very versatile lace, nice to have on hand for any project, from babies to ladies.

E-25...$2.00 per yard...3/4" wide...white...available 5-8 yds.

E-24...$1.50 per yard...1/2" wide...white

E-24 lace edging gives the effect of a tiny insertion joined to a tiny edge.

E-23...$1.80 per yard...1/4" wide...white

E-23 is a sweet little edge, perfect for babies and dolls. Stitching over the header into the vertical bars leaves the row of holes exposed. It looks just like entredeux.  See it up close on the doll bedding.

E-20...$$1.00 per yard...1/4" wide...copper

E-20 is so unique.  The color is just spectacular.  A friend used this lace as trim on an ivory linen ring bearer’s button on suit.  It was so lovely.  This lace will gather, but you lose the effect of the cordonnet.  It looks best, I think, flat.

E1~$1 per yard~1/4"~white

  • One of my favorites, which I call chameleon lace because it is so versatile. This is one of the most useful, multipurpose laces I have ever used. A scant 1/4″ wide, before your very eyes it can change from a tiny insertion to an edging to itty bitty beading.
  • The scallops are shallow enough that you can join either edge to another lace or entredeux or even roll and whip it to fabric just as you would any tiny insertion. As an edging, the delicate scallop in combination with the tiny holes makes it look like tiny edging joined to entredeux.
  • Embroidery floss can be woven through the holes to simulate ribbon in beading. It is wonderful for doll and baby clothing.

I used this on Alastair’s Easter bubble last year  and as the edge of a Swiss flannel baby blanket

E-2... $1.50per yard...3/4" wide...white

E-2 This is another versatile lace, good for bonnets, dresses and more.  It was used on the Pink Diamonds pillow, the Zig Zag Bonnet, and other projects.

E-3... $1.50 per yard... 7/8" wide... white

E-3 This intricate pattern was used on Courtney’s 1st Communion Dress and Judith Dobson Tea Dress   .  It is also suitable for boys as there are no flowers.

E-4... $2 per yard...7/8" wide... ivory

E-4 This is an old, classic pattern called Gooseneck.  Can you see the long necked geese preening their wing feathers? Continue reading
