{"id":10119,"date":"2010-12-07T21:50:43","date_gmt":"2010-12-08T02:50:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=10119"},"modified":"2012-04-15T00:39:34","modified_gmt":"2012-04-15T04:39:34","slug":"heirloom-ornament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/07\/heirloom-ornament\/","title":{"rendered":"Heirloom Ornament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/HeirloomOrnament.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10120\" title=\"HeirloomOrnament\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/HeirloomOrnament.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"477\" height=\"457\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I would love to have a\u00c2\u00a0 tree loaded with heirloom Christmas balls.\u00c2\u00a0 But it is already loaded with ornaments made by my children and grandchildren and other special keepsake decorations.\u00c2\u00a0 Still, I enjoyed making this one by hand while\u00c2\u00a0 taking a break from holiday machine sewing.<\/p>\n<p>The styrofoam ball was simply divided into four parts, then three\u00c2\u00a0quarters were filled with puffing.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The fourth features a\u00c2\u00a0shadow embroidery design done by hand.\u00c2\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/HeirloomOrnamentbackcrop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10123\" title=\"HeirloomOrnamentbackcrop\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/HeirloomOrnamentbackcrop.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"476\" height=\"474\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/HeirloomOrnamentbackcrop.jpg 476w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/HeirloomOrnamentbackcrop-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/HeirloomOrnamentbackcrop-300x298.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 476px) 100vw, 476px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sections are marked off with beading and satin ribbon.\u00c2\u00a0 After trying to hide the pins necessary to hold the fabric in place, I finally decided to use colored pins and make them look like a part of the design.<\/p>\n<p>Usually, I line up all my supplies in advance but this time I did not think that far ahead.\u00c2\u00a0 It is so much easier to match floss to pin heads or ribbon or whatever, than to do it in reverse.\u00c2\u00a0 I was lucky to have pins just the right color to\u00c2\u00a0coordinate with the green leaves, though I had to use some white ones along the puffing sections.<\/p>\n<p>I really do enjoy handwork, but there is always such a shortage of time.\u00c2\u00a0 So this indulgence was like a stolen pleasure.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 But then, at this busy time of year, I guess we all deserve a little indulgence.\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, I&#8217;m sure we do.
