One of Laurel’s Christmas gifts was this new dance bag.\u00c2\u00a0 Almost three years ago, I embroidered a sweet pink bag with pastel ballerinas.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Dirty and stained, it\u00c2\u00a0apparently has long since passed its expiration date.<\/p>\n

Laurel’s 6 year old taste has gone over to the wild side, likely the result of glitzy marketing that targets\u00c2\u00a0her age group.\u00c2\u00a0 Though I\u00c2\u00a0prefer the look and mood of the old bag<\/a>,\u00c2\u00a0 I have to remind myself \u00c2\u00a0that I am sewing for Laurel.<\/p>\n

The\u00c2\u00a0shiny, new, waterproof, black bag \u00c2\u00a0should be impervious to stains, like the huge\u00c2\u00a0red blotch\u00c2\u00a0brought on by\u00c2\u00a0a leaking bottle of\u00c2\u00a0 Gatorade that she planned to finish after dance class.<\/p>\n

Both the monogram on the back of the bag and the DANCE\u00c2\u00a0lettering\u00c2\u00a0are Dotty Girl Stacked Monogram Font <\/em>from DigiStitches.\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel says it’s cool and she should know.\u00c2\u00a0 She is six and a half<\/strong><\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 now, she\u00c2\u00a0reminds me.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0 The dots on each\u00c2\u00a0character\u00c2\u00a0make the letters two-color, without being fussy.\u00c2\u00a0 For extra glitz appeal, these were stitched with silver metallic thread.<\/p>\n

The two\u00c2\u00a0little dancers\u00c2\u00a0are from Creative Designs Ballet 2<\/em> collection.\u00c2\u00a0 Their costumes were outlined with the same silver metallic thread while their flesh colored faces and arms were outlined with a golden brown.<\/p>\n

Grosgrain ribbon in hot pink with black polka dots was stitched along the top of the bag for a little extra punch and to echo the dots in the monogram.<\/p>\n

Embroidering these ready made bags, I have concluded, is more trouble than making the bag myself.\u00c2\u00a0 It is\u00c2\u00a0so frustrating to work with the bag inside out!\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0It necessitated opening the side seams to create a viewing window in order to monitor the stitching progress.\u00c2\u00a0 Otherwise, I could not see what was happening in the bag.<\/p>\n

Threading the machine was difficult and annoying.\u00c2\u00a0 I remember thinking the same thing when I made Laurel’s first bag, but somehow that hard earned wisdom was forgotten until it was too late.<\/p>\n

But Laurel loves\u00c2\u00a0her new\u00c2\u00a0bag and her mother, I am sure, will be happy to have her little\u00c2\u00a0ballerina walk into the dance studio\u00c2\u00a0carrying a more respectable looking bag.<\/p>\n

When this one gets old, I will make\u00c2\u00a0a bag from scratch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
