Grandson Robert, 5, declares that he wants to be an archeologist when he grows up.\u00c2\u00a0 Due to that interest, he absolutely loves the Playmobil pyramid he got for Christmas.\u00c2\u00a0 His mother, however, has bemoaned the fact that it has more pieces\/parts than the Eiffel Tower.\u00c2\u00a0 Each panel can be removed to reveal hidden chambers,\u00c2\u00a0staircases, trap doors, \u00c2\u00a0tombs, servants, and more.<\/p>\n

How well I remember helping Robert’s father, our son Ryan, search the house for the many pieces to his Fisher-Price farm\u00c2\u00a0and two story garage.\u00c2\u00a0 With that\u00c2\u00a0memory and the ease of making a standard teepee bag, I stitched this up in a hurry for my precious grandson.\u00c2\u00a0 So this bag, made from the basic teepee bag pattern<\/a>,\u00c2\u00a0 now holds the sarcophagus and\u00c2\u00a0treasures of his\u00c2\u00a0pyramid.<\/p>\n

Actually, I had made ponchos for Laurel and her doll and needed something for Robert.\u00c2\u00a0 It was late when I finished the ponchos and I wanted to shut down my sewing room and go to bed.\u00c2\u00a0 But Nana duty called. I needed to make something in a hurry for Robert, so the bag came to mind at once.\u00c2\u00a0Of course, it’s pyramid shape seemed especially appropriate for my sweet Robert.<\/p>\n

So after spending way too much time searching for Egyptian-themed designs that would work on this bag, I finally went to one of my favorite sites, Embroidery Library<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 and for $1 bought the perfect pyramid design for the bag.\u00c2\u00a0 While I was there, I discovered that I already\u00c2\u00a0owned the\u00c2\u00a0tiny sphinx in a miniature collection that I bought for another purpose.\u00c2\u00a0 I love that site.<\/p>\n

Embroidery Library is one of the best\u00c2\u00a0sources for embroidery designs.\u00c2\u00a0 I have no vested interest in\u00c2\u00a0 this site, but use and recommend it frequently.\u00c2\u00a0 Their search engine is excellent, unlike some which, even after typing in the name of the collection, returns with no search results.<\/p>\n

I would like to have made it a little more elaborate, with embroidery on each side\u00c2\u00a0and decorative stitching along the\u00c2\u00a0zipper.\u00c2\u00a0 But I have finally realized that not every project requires the planning and details of an heirloom.\u00c2\u00a0 And Robert would have been no\u00c2\u00a0more pleased.\u00c2\u00a0I do wish I had sprung for\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0larger sphinx.<\/p>\n

The greater satisfaction of a more elaborate project would have been mine and Robert needed the bag sooner than I needed satisfaction.\u00c2\u00a0 No doubt\u00c2\u00a0he will soon find satisfaction\u00c2\u00a0in the sandbox, as\u00c2\u00a0our curious junior archeologist\u00c2\u00a0digs for bones and other relics.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, sewing\u00c2\u00a0something serviceable, even ho-hum, is better than nothing.\u00c2\u00a0 Especially when the recipient is 5 years old.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
