the honest-to-goodness Snow White with 6 year old Laurel, Snow White Jr.<\/p><\/div>\n

This Disney Snow White costume\/dress has more lives than a lucky cat.\u00c2\u00a0 It just keeps coming back!\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel’s homeschool group\u00c2\u00a0just\u00c2\u00a0spent the day at\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Epcot and her mother sent this picture of Laurel wearing her favorite princess dress with Snow White Herself.<\/p>\n

3 year old Snow White, aka Laurel Cade, Greg Wiggle, aka Robert Charles, and Robert’s constant companion moose, aka Moosie<\/p><\/div>\n

The dress has a long history.\u00c2\u00a0 And just when I think it has finally seen its last days, it rises like the phoenix to be born again.<\/p>\n

When Laurel had just turned 3, but was wearing a 2, her mother Shelly bought the dress at a yard sale for $1.\u00c2\u00a0 Its first owner, an unknown 7-8\u00c2\u00a0year old girl, \u00c2\u00a0had worn and lovingly cared for it.<\/p>\n

But it was a size 8!!!!!!\u00c2\u00a0 With all the confidence of a loving daughter-in-law,\u00c2\u00a0 Shelly thought it would be no great challenge for me to cut it down to a 2 or 3.\u00c2\u00a0 Uggggghhhhh…I really dislike alterations but accepted the huge garment graciously.<\/p>\n

I started with an enormous\u00c2\u00a0 tuck at the shoulder and continued with a series of vertical tucks down the bodice front and back.\u00c2\u00a0 It was\u00c2\u00a0designed to be fitted at or slightly above the waist, but became a dropped waist for sure on\u00c2\u00a0our little\u00c2\u00a03 year old its second owner.<\/p>\n

The\u00c2\u00a0skirt and underskirt were unceremoniously cut away and serged.\u00c2\u00a0 It fit Laurel perfectly and\u00c2\u00a0that next Halloween she was transformed into Snow White, body and mind.\u00c2\u00a0 I thought I had seen the last of Snow White.<\/p>\n

A year later, it was given to a neighbor girl\u00c2\u00a0who wanted to wear it for that Halloween.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 But Naomi, the third owner was a little bigger, so I let out a few tucks.\u00c2\u00a0 Some time later, the dress was given back to Laurel, now\u00c2\u00a0 the 4th owner.<\/p>\n

Last year, Laurel and the homeschoolers went to a Renaissance Fair.\u00c2\u00a0 The Snow White dress would be perfect,\u00c2\u00a0it seemed, but it was too short.\u00c2\u00a0 An 8″ wide domestic eyelet was stitched to the hem and more tucks were let out.<\/p>\n

Now, having exhausted her interest in The Wiggles, Max and Ruby, Backyardigans and other kiddie genres, Laurel is back into princesses.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Last week’s \u00c2\u00a0trip to DisneyWorld with her family\u00c2\u00a0generated\u00c2\u00a0even more\u00c2\u00a0enthusiasm for Disney’s feminine royalty,\u00c2\u00a0 thus\u00c2\u00a0Laurel’s choice of dress\u00c2\u00a0for the homeschoolers Epcot outing.<\/p>\n

Most of the tucks have been released.\u00c2\u00a0 The skirt is as long as it ever\u00c2\u00a0can be.\u00c2\u00a0 So am I done with Snow White or will it rise from the ashes?\u00c2\u00a0 I hope not.\u00c2\u00a0 But\u00c2\u00a0with my sewing machine and a persistent interest in Snow White, Shelly surely got a lot of bang for that one well-spent buck.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
