I get at least that much pleasure from mine.\u00c2\u00a0 Lately, 5 year-old Robert has been generating pleasure and entertainment at an alarming rate.<\/div>\n
His fascination with Egypt seems endless.\u00c2\u00a0 He got over Max and Ruby, The Wiggles, Transformers\u00c2\u00a0and even\u00c2\u00a0Spiderman in less time than he has spent pursuing his interest in this ancient country and its culture.<\/div>\n

Last week, he wrote a short story as part of a school assignment.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course,\u00c2\u00a0his chose for his subjects Egypt and a pharaoh.<\/p>\n

Later, he enlarged this (very brief) story into a play (one act) whose star role was played, of course, \u00c2\u00a0by none other than Robert Charles, Himself.<\/p>\n

He and his mother made his costume, a tunic ( read: pillowcase) with a\u00c2\u00a0wide circular paper collar, tie sash\u00c2\u00a0belt\u00c2\u00a0and wristlets .<\/p>\n

Pharaoh Robert\u00c2\u00a0chose to pose for this playbill\u00c2\u00a0in front of the stairs that go to his homeschool classroom.\u00c2\u00a0 The\u00c2\u00a0staircase is reminiscent\u00c2\u00a0of the pyramids he saw last week at Epcot, though, he was quick to point out,\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0this sort of pyramid with stairs would be Aztec, not Egyptian.<\/p>\n

The Boy King cannot sit still on Nana’s stairs or anywhere else.<\/p><\/div>\n

For\u00c2\u00a0an early\u00c2\u00a0Valentine’s Day gift, I embroidered this shirt for him.\u00c2\u00a0 He loved it.<\/p>\n

As we discussed whether the image is of King Tutankamun or King Khufu, I mentioned that King Tut was only 18 years old when he was the pharaoh.<\/p>\n

“He was 18 when he DIED, Nana,” Robert said as he corrected me.\u00c2\u00a0 For my further edification he informed me, “He was like 10 when he was made the king.”\u00c2\u00a0 I didn’t question his facts at the time, though I have since done a little research.\u00c2\u00a0 Turns out that\u00c2\u00a0 Tut was crowned at the tender age of 9.\u00c2\u00a0 I can’t wait to tell that little smarty pants.<\/p>\n

I love Embroidery Library www.emblibrary.com<\/a>, where I got the\u00c2\u00a0King Tut\u00c2\u00a0design.\u00c2\u00a0 At that site, you can find\u00c2\u00a0designs on any topic, download it immediately (even at 2 a.m.!).\u00c2\u00a0 Another bonus is that their search engine is excellent.\u00c2\u00a0And I love machine embroidery for enabling me to address my grandchildren’s specific interests in a timely manner.\u00c2\u00a0 Where would I ever find an Egyptophile shirt for Robert?<\/p>\n

The text was added by me. I know “Egyptophile” is really one unhyphenated\u00c2\u00a0word, but the design required splitting.\u00c2\u00a0 Unofficially authorized by “embroiderer’s license,” I feel\u00c2\u00a0empowered\u00c2\u00a0to\u00c2\u00a0modify\u00c2\u00a0the English language as needed.<\/p>\n

I would never have believed that I would be embroidering a pharaoh. Grandchildren broaden your horizons.<\/p>\n

Nana fun:<\/em><\/strong> My son just spent some time with Urban Meyer, former football coach for University of Florida.\u00c2\u00a0 Urban very generously signed several souvenir items for Ryan’s children, Robert and Laurel.\u00c2\u00a0 On\u00c2\u00a0a football , Coach Meyer wrote: To Robert, future\u00c2\u00a0UF Gator.<\/em><\/p>\n

We were discussing this with Robert and asked if he would like to go to University of Florida when he went to college.\u00c2\u00a0 He replied, “No, I want to go to Universal Studios.”\u00c2\u00a0 With Robert we\u00c2\u00a0never know if he actually intended to be witty or if he just made a 5 year-old’s vocabulary error.<\/em><\/p>\n
