Laurel, 5, 2009<\/p><\/div>\n

\u00c2\u00a0Pinafores are great garments for little girls.\u00c2\u00a0 Through spring and summer, they are worn as sun dresses and for fall and winter, they can be popped over over a coordinating basic yoke dress.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0By doing so, they\u00c2\u00a0serve their original purpose of keeping the under dress clean for another wearing.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Laurel wore\u00c2\u00a0this pinafore for her\u00c2\u00a0third day of home school class.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Unfortunately, \u00c2\u00a0I took the picture just after she ate lunch,\u00c2\u00a0 which left a\u00c2\u00a0spot of peach juice\u00c2\u00a0on the bodice.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh well.\u00c2\u00a0 It might come out and\u00c2\u00a0the pinafore is\u00c2\u00a0what I call a second generation garment anyway.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 That sounds so much nicer than “hand-me-down.”<\/p>\n

Rebecca, 6, 1984<\/p><\/div>\n

Twenty five years ago, I made this pinafore for my daughter to wear to first grade.\u00c2\u00a0 She wore it over a basic yoke dress of gorgeous Liberty of London tanna lawn.\u00c2\u00a0 The crisp print featured leaves of autumn colors–rust, coral, gold and browns.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Laurel would love that dress.\u00c2\u00a0 But after considerable digging through closets and the cedar chest, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve finally accepted the sad reality that it is MIA.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is another Little Sunday Dresses pinafore, as seen in the previous post that shows Laurel in her Cinderella pinafore.\u00c2\u00a0 I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve always liked the back buttonhole extension and the underarm ties which allow controlled expansion of bodice, thus extending the length of time the pinafore fits.<\/p>\n

My daughter-in-law once said to me, “Did you save EVERYTHING?”\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Of course, I did not.\u00c2\u00a0 But\u00c2\u00a0when I think of the precious smocking moments I snatched out of my very busy young motherhood days, I am glad I saved what I did.\u00c2\u00a0 It makes me grin from ear to ear when is I see Rebecca’s dresses on Laurel.\u00c2\u00a0 It truly is a second generation dress.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Perhaps some day Rebecca will have a little girl who will wear this—if the peach spot comes out.<\/p>\n

It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s probably a stretch, but I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m trying to tie this 25 year old pinafore into my theme of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Modern Projects for Old Fashioned Nanas\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by teaching Laurel about recycling.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Yeah…..that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.<\/p>\n
