Though March 21st is the official\u00c2\u00a0first day\u00c2\u00a0of spring, March 17th is truly\u00c2\u00a0the harbinger of sunny days to come.<\/p>\n

St. Patrick’s Day\u00c2\u00a0is just plain fun.\u00c2\u00a0 Snakes are said to have been driven away by this popular saint\u00c2\u00a0and yet\u00c2\u00a0parades “snake” through town in celebration of all that is Irish.<\/p>\n

The holiday\u00c2\u00a0implies no responsibility for candy or roses or gifts or greeting cards.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0A celebrant’s only duty is to wear green, The Great Equalizer that\u00c2\u00a0enables people of all nationalities to share a single ancestry for\u00c2\u00a0a day.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, there are always those who take advantage of a situation and sport shirts or hats demanding “Kiss me.\u00c2\u00a0 I’m Irish!”<\/p>\n

On this day,\u00c2\u00a0everyone of good humor is Irish.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Though the smallest dab of green on one’s\u00c2\u00a0clothing implies participation in the day’s festivities, it is more fun for children to dress for the occasion.<\/p>\n

With Alastair’s 2nd birthday coming up and his outfit and party favors to make, I decided to get St.Patrick’s Day projects off my to-do list first.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, I still have Robert’s shirt and some pillowcases to make, but this is a start.<\/p>\n

March 17 falls on Thursday, the regular meeting day for Robert and Laurel’s homeschool co-op.\u00c2\u00a0 Mothers take turns presenting a lesson and it is likely that St.Patrick’s Day will be the theme for\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0activities on that day.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel will be wearing this shirt and hairbow.<\/p>\n

The embroidery design on the shirt is from Lucky Alphabet<\/em> from Planet Applique www.planetapplique.com<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 The tiny shamrock on the hat has been extracted and embroidered on the sleeve.<\/p>\n

The\u00c2\u00a0hairbow is my first attempt at ribbon accessories.\u00c2\u00a0 It is pretty ho-hum and\u00c2\u00a0ordinary, but I expect to get\u00c2\u00a0better.\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00c2\u00a0is so much fun!<\/p>\n

I purchased the excellent video lessons from www.learntomakebows.com<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0and can’t wait to make bows for flip flops, bags and more.\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel’s hair cut does not lend itself to big bows, but I expect she will wear this one and enjoy others wherever I place them.<\/p>\n

At least as exciting as the bows is the covered button\u00c2\u00a0 I made with my new button machine from www.hopeyoder.com<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 Nestled in the center of the bow, the fabric shamrock\u00c2\u00a0offers a pleasing contrast to the ribbon.<\/p>\n

Neither of these projects took very long.\u00c2\u00a0 It’s unlikely that either the shirt or the bow will be worn more than once or twice.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0But for the small investment of time and materials, Laurel will be as cute as any little leprechaun when it’s time for the “wearin’ o’ the green.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
