This post\u00c2\u00a0is a rerun.\u00c2\u00a0 I’ve spent most of every day this past week tending to my dearly loved\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a089 year-old aunt.\u00c2\u00a0 She has been\u00c2\u00a0hospitalized and has suffered a rather dramatic fall into dementia, so I have been trying to arrange a move from her assisted living facility to a\u00c2\u00a0higher level of care in a nursing home.<\/p>\n

Between dealing with her needs and tending my 2 year old grandson Alastair,\u00c2\u00a0I have run out of time and decided to re-run some old posts until I can get caught up.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0I doubt if any readers have read all\u00c2\u00a0 or even most of the 386 posts\u00c2\u00a0from the birth of this blog.\u00c2\u00a0 So here it is……<\/p>\n

I love to see siblings in coordinating clothes.\u00c2\u00a0 My son\u00c2\u00a0and daughter are fully 4 years apart in age, so I was only able to indulge in this practice for a very short time.<\/p>\n

But my granddaughter Laurel is just 15 months older than her brother Robert so I have made them many “matching” outfits.\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel loves it, her mother loves it and Robert, frankly, doesn’t care one way or the other.<\/p>\n

This picture shows that\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel is\u00c2\u00a0enjoying the sibling hug.\u00c2\u00a0 Robert, frankly, didn’t care one way or the other.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 But they did look adorable in their smocked frog outfits.\u00c2\u00a0 My husband and I had taken the children with us to an afternoon reception for the grown up daughter of our dear friends.\u00c2\u00a0 She and her husband have been living and working in Norway\u00c2\u00a0 and Jennifer had returned to her childhood home\u00c2\u00a0in Florida to thaw out and warm up.\u00c2\u00a0 The children were charming and received their many compliments graciously.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, Laurel was gracious.\u00c2\u00a0 Robert, frankly, didn’t care one way or the other.<\/p>\n

Both garments are blue microcheck\u00c2\u00a0“ready-to-smock”\u00c2\u00a0 polyblend fabric, though the\u00c2\u00a0smocking is from two different frog plates.\u00c2\u00a0 Robert’s insert, probably 45” pleated up, had plenty of pleats to make cute, crisp little frogs from the Cross Eyed\u00c2\u00a0Cricket’s “Frog\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Pond<\/em>” plate.\u00c2\u00a0 But when I tried to smock just one of the frogs\u00c2\u00a0at the center front of Laurel’s dress, it looked like Jabba the Hut.\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0would have scared the bajeebers out of any children in sight.<\/p>\n

\"\"Many picture smocking designs cannot be worked on a bishop and believe me, I tried this one every which way but up.\u00c2\u00a0 I regraphed it, reducing the width and increasing the height.\u00c2\u00a0 Then I smocked and regraphed twice more, but to no avail.\u00c2\u00a0 The fabric was almost worn out from the having the smocking ripped out so many times.<\/p>\n

So I chose a different Cross Eyed Cricket plate, “Tadpole Lesson<\/em>“\u00c2\u00a0and extracted one small frog from the scene to use on the bishop.\u00c2\u00a0 The water lily is just free form bullion knots.<\/p>\n

I wish I had feather stitched\u00c2\u00a0Robert’s collar and cuffs in green.\u00c2\u00a0 But I was out of time.\u00c2\u00a0 And as usual, Robert didn’t care one way or the other.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe I’ll do that later for Alastair.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe he will care.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
