Note the ever popular Happy Birthday tablecloth. Several years ago I made 3 or 4 of these. They have been through more parties than Thomas has been through tunnels.<\/p><\/div>\n

Alastair’s Two-toot birthday party was a big hit with the children and as well as the adults.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The\u00c2\u00a0cupcake train delighted everyone and was so easy to make.\u00c2\u00a0 Typical of Florida spring, the sun shone brightly and a gulf coast breeze kept everyone comfortable.<\/p>\n

My daughter Rebecca and I made the cupcakes and built the train cars the night before the party.\u00c2\u00a0 A Thomas train engine\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0pulled flatbed cars loaded with cupcakes.<\/p>\n

The train cars were\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0built with\u00c2\u00a0a stack of two graham crackers\u00c2\u00a0with buttercream frosting holding them firmly together.\u00c2\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Other graham crackers were\u00c2\u00a0 broken into “sticks” and stacked three high for the axels, with mini Oreo wheels.\u00c2\u00a0 Gum drops served as hitches between the cars.<\/p>\n

We all enjoyed watching 2 1\/2 year old Ethan surreptitiously pull an Oreo\u00c2\u00a0wheel from the train and pop it into his mouth.\u00c2\u00a0 His mother scolded, but\u00c2\u00a0 Rebecca\u00c2\u00a0assured her\u00c2\u00a0that the flatbed cars were there for the\u00c2\u00a0children to enjoy, just like\u00c2\u00a0 the cupcakes and their teepee train bags.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

More cupcakes were stacked on the cupcake tree, interspersed with spectacular strawberries, picked that morning in a berry patch just down the road from Alastair’s\u00c2\u00a0paternal grandmother’s home.\u00c2\u00a0 They added color and\u00c2\u00a0a delicious\u00c2\u00a0suggestion of nutrition to the variety of food served.<\/p>\n

On the adjoining 6′ table were 8 of the best pizzas I have ever tasted.\u00c2\u00a0 Sodas, juice boxes and bottled water rounded out the menu.<\/p>\n

Alastair and cousin Laurel do some artwork while waiting for the party to begin.<\/p><\/div>\n

Rebecca and Harvey had the back yard set up like a kiddie playground.\u00c2\u00a0 The two turtle sandboxes were loaded with fresh sand, an easel and coloring table were set up for budding artists, quilts dotted the grass for little ones to rest or visit with one another.<\/p>\n

A few years ago, when our grandson Robert was a little guy, Rebecca and Harvey bought him an incredibly beautiful wooden airplane that rocked.\u00c2\u00a0 Robert enjoyed it for some time, but has long since outgrown it.<\/p>\n

His parents returned the favor and the plane for Alastair.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0This plane was just one more item in the yard, \u00c2\u00a0put out for the children’s entertainment.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Little\u00c2\u00a0aviators at the party took turns heading off into the wild blue yonder.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>A pair of\u00c2\u00a0neighborhood mallard ducks even came to celebrate Alastair’s birthday.\u00c2\u00a0 They were uninvited, but welcomed by all.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, the children loved the socialized\u00c2\u00a0quackers who showed no fear so long as the toddlers kept 3′ away.\u00c2\u00a0 After a vigorous swim in the backyard duck pond, they took an afternoon nap at\u00c2\u00a0about the same\u00c2\u00a0time Alastair surrendered to 2 year-old party fatigue and\u00c2\u00a0asked to be put to bed.<\/p>\n

I wish I had taken more pictures, but I was busy enjoying the festivities and just forgot after guests arrived.\u00c2\u00a0 The men were inside watching the Gator basketball team\u00c2\u00a0advance to the Sweet Sixteen so I had to check on the game several times.\u00c2\u00a0 I missed so many photo ops, but when the rest of the family combines their pictures, we should have\u00c2\u00a0the party\u00c2\u00a0completely\u00c2\u00a0documented.<\/p>\n

As we were cleaning up, I couldn’t help but notice all the “sewing” components of this party.\u00c2\u00a0 You all know, I am sure, that almost every\u00c2\u00a0upcoming\u00c2\u00a0occasion can be a call to the sewing room.\u00c2\u00a0 I looked at Alastair, so cute in his AMTRAK embroidered engineer outfit and Laurel in her machine monogrammed party dress with\u00c2\u00a0the ribbon bows on her flip flops.\u00c2\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The day before the party, I had cut an 8′ \u00c2\u00a0length of 60″ wide white fabric, which I keep on hand,\u00c2\u00a0 and serged the sides.\u00c2\u00a0 This covered the 6′ table.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 For the smaller cupcake table a square of white was prepared in the same manner.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Both tables were topped with the HAPPY BIRTHDAY squares I made a few years ago for\u00c2\u00a0my grandson Robert’s 3rd birthday.\u00c2\u00a0 They have been used for several parties,\u00c2\u00a0both for my grandchildren and for neighborhood children.<\/p>\n

The teepee bag party favors were a hit with all ages and the train tea towel (previous post)\u00c2\u00a0was perfect for the occasion.<\/p>\n
