{"id":11954,"date":"2011-03-22T23:19:19","date_gmt":"2011-03-23T03:19:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=11954"},"modified":"2011-05-29T21:03:21","modified_gmt":"2011-05-30T01:03:21","slug":"old-fashioned-baby-bubble-re-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/03\/22\/old-fashioned-baby-bubble-re-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Old Fashioned Baby Bubble&#8211;Re-run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/zOldFashionedbubbleAlstanding.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12831\" title=\"zOldFashionedbubbleAlstanding\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/zOldFashionedbubbleAlstanding.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"372\" height=\"543\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/zOldFashionedbubbleAlstanding.jpg 372w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/zOldFashionedbubbleAlstanding-205x300.jpg 205w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 372px) 100vw, 372px\" \/><\/a><em>I&#8217;m still up to my eyeballs\u00c2\u00a0cleaning out Aunt Aileen&#8217;s apartment and sorting through all her\u00c2\u00a0paperwork.\u00c2\u00a0 Now she is settled\u00c2\u00a0in a nursing home and seems to be content.\u00c2\u00a0 We are so grateful.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Aunt Rheeta is staying a while longer\u00c2\u00a0to help\u00c2\u00a0me sort and was thrilled to find old photos of her parents, grandparents and siblings that somehow ended up in Aunt\u00c2\u00a0Aileen&#8217;s custody.\u00c2\u00a0 We have another week to vacate the apartment and it is going to take every minute of that to get the job done.\u00c2\u00a0 So this is another re-run.\u00c2\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Now that Alastair&#8217;s 2nd birthday has passed, I am enjoying these pictures of him as an infant.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12832\" title=\"zoldFashionedbubble\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/zoldFashionedbubble1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"441\" height=\"488\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is a delightful little garment, old fashioned in appearance but with all the\u00c2\u00a0convenience of a modern garment.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0It looks soooooo much better on\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Baby than on the hanger.\u00c2\u00a0 When I showed this to Rebecca, she paused a moment before saying, &#8220;&#8230;.uh..thanks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/IMGP87033.JPG\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0But after she saw it on 5-month old Alastair, she really liked it.\u00c2\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12834\" title=\"OldFahionedBubbleAlSmile\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/OldFahionedBubbleAlSmile.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"580\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zAlOFB1standing.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/AlOFB1standing2.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u00c2\u00a0is still a quite large on him and will look better still when he is a little taller.\u00c2\u00a0 But hey, Florida summers last until November so I&#8217;m sure he will have plenty of warm days to wear it.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern is\u00c2\u00a0 from the <em>Old Fashioned Baby Embroidered Baby\u00c2\u00a0Clothes<\/em> pattern <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oldfashionedbaby.com\">www.oldfashionedbaby.com<\/a> .\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The beauty of the\u00c2\u00a0one-piece pattern\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0is that there are no buttonholes, no shoulder seams, no side seams and no set in sleeves.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0 Two tiny optional pockets,\u00c2\u00a0 a small crotch extension and a one piece facing for the back opening\u00c2\u00a0are the only other pieces.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/IMGP87033.JPG\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/IMGP87033.JPG\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pique&#8217; is one of my favorite fabrics for children&#8217;s wear, but then there is the ironing factor.\u00c2\u00a0 And I am putting a great deal of thought into creating &#8220;modern projects for old fashioned Nanas.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, I do use a lot of\u00c2\u00a0pique anyway, but I&#8217;ve found a really good alternative.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 This is white baby wale, or\u00c2\u00a0 pin feather cord, the name by which it was first introduced to me years ago. It looks as crisp as freshly pressed pique.\u00c2\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12835\" title=\"zOldFashionedBabypocket\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/zOldFashionedBabypocket.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"354\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0I like the contrasting look of the pockets cut on the crosswise of grain rather than on the straight.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I love\u00c2\u00a0feather stitching by hand.\u00c2\u00a0 But for this garment, I used\u00c2\u00a0the sewing machine and 30 wt. Mettler thread.\u00c2\u00a0 Pearl buttons, sewn on with the same blue thread, are placed at the points and intersections of the grid.\u00c2\u00a0 The pockets are also held in place with machine feather stitches.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12833\" title=\"zOldFashionedBubbleneck\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/zOldFashionedBubbleneck.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"422\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/zOldFashionedBubbleneck.jpg 422w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/zOldFashionedBubbleneck-300x261.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 422px) 100vw, 422px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To finish the neckline and armholes, I attached entredeux and then cut right up to the holes.\u00c2\u00a0 Using my tiniest hook, I crocheted a simple edge into the holes with the same 30 wt.
