The flip flop lace above the puffing was a new\u00c2\u00a0experience for me.\u00c2\u00a0 Sometimes, new methods can go bad when you are\u00c2\u00a0facing a deadline and working on an important project.\u00c2\u00a0 But flip flopping was quick and easy.\u00c2\u00a0It made me feel a little political.<\/p>\n<p>I have always hesitated to flip flop.\u00c2\u00a0 The name is a little wacky and it reminds\u00c2\u00a0 me of\u00c2\u00a0election campaigns.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Additionally, \u00c2\u00a0I don&#8217;t like to see the\u00c2\u00a0back side of lace on the front side of my garment.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0But the lace\u00c2\u00a0I\u00c2\u00a0selected has a very intricate pattern, making it hard to tell the right side from wrong.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It seemed\u00c2\u00a0like a good\u00c2\u00a0choice for this technique.\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Easterprogressgoodalldk1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-12255\" title=\"Easterprogressgoodalldk\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Easterprogressgoodalldk1-789x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"489\" height=\"558\" \/><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So I marched on and was happy\u00c2\u00a0 that I didn&#8217;t cut the lace when trimming away the base fabric from underneath.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0All the pinstitch\u00c2\u00a0pivots turned nicely and the puffing band joined to the skirt without incident.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0Not only that&#8212; my bobbins didn&#8217;t\u00c2\u00a0give out before the seam or pass ended. Life is good.\u00c2\u00a0 And it wasn&#8217;t even dinner time\u00c2\u00a0 yet.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After rinsing out the blue marker lines and waiting for the skirt to dry, I even got started on the petticoat.\u00c2\u00a0 I hadn&#8217;t really thought much about the\u00c2\u00a0blue slip until I was ready to cut it out.\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/zEastergoodfortunefancybandbrite1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-13485\" title=\"zEastergoodfortunefancybandbrite\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/zEastergoodfortunefancybandbrite1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/zEastergoodfortunefancybandbrite1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/zEastergoodfortunefancybandbrite1-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/zEastergoodfortunefancybandbrite1.jpg 1089w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0Then it occurred to\u00c2\u00a0me that\u00c2\u00a0the bodice\u00c2\u00a0had to have the same lines as the dress.\u00c2\u00a0 Using the same pattern piece, I simply marked the skirt seam line 1\/2&#8243; lower than the lace insertion.\u00c2\u00a0 This allows the blue batiste to lie flat under the lace and for\u00c2\u00a0 the gathers to fall\u00c2\u00a0just below the lace.<\/p>\n<p>The other modifications were few and simple.\u00c2\u00a0 The neckline was cut 3\/8&#8243; lower and\u00c2\u00a01\/2&#8243; was trimmed away from the shoulder and down the armscye.\u00c2\u00a0 When the skirt was dry, I put the slip bodice aside.\u00c2\u00a0 But I\u00c2\u00a0 feel like I have a head start on it.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To\u00c2\u00a0top off\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0my afternoon of good sewing luck, Bob brought in Chinese food for dinner so I didn&#8217;t have to cook.\u00c2\u00a0 He had egg foo yung, I had lemon chicken and we each had a fortune cookie.\u00c2\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t believe it when I read mine.\u00c2\u00a0 It said, &#8220;You will prosper in the field of wacky inventions.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00c2\u00a0 Don&#8217;t you just love a good sewing day?\u00c2\u00a0 Every now and again, everything seems to go just right.\u00c2\u00a0 This was such a day.\u00c2\u00a0 I should have bought a lottery ticket.
