Two year old Alastair has been with us for 3 days now and was joined yesterday by Robert and Laurel.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Our home has been like a\u00c2\u00a0combination circus\/amusement park.\u00c2\u00a0 There are happenings in all three\u00c2\u00a0rings and someone always waiting in line for fun or food.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0It all ends tomorrow afternoon when Alastair’s parents return from their trip to New England.<\/p>\n

Bob and I will be wistfully sorry to see the children go, but at the same time welcome the standard quiet and serenity of our home.\u00c2\u00a0 One of the first things I will do is sew, which\u00c2\u00a0is like my reset button.<\/p>\n

Often, the quickest way to reset is to embroider a “blank.”\u00c2\u00a0 I like to keep some on hand for times like this when I need a quick sewing fix.\u00c2\u00a0 Tee shirts are handy, useful and always appreciated by my sweet grandsons, but girlie projects suit me best.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Amid last week’s hustle and bustle I stole a few moments to customize this little knit popover frock.\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00c2\u00a0was \u00c2\u00a0just enough for me to get over my hump and back on track for other things I needed to do, but really didn’t want to do.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

I purchased three of\u00c2\u00a0these\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0reasonably priced garments\u00c2\u00a0at Sears Essentials, in purple\/lavender as shown, blue\/aqua and pink\/rose.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Fortunately, my almost 7 year-old \u00c2\u00a0granddaughter can still wear a 6-6x, the largest size\u00c2\u00a0 available in this style.\u00c2\u00a0If it came in larger sizes, I would have picked up several more.<\/p>\n

It’s no secret that Florida summers are hot HOT HOT!<\/em><\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 This dress is cooler than a shorts\u00c2\u00a0 outfit and is suitable for the many and varied activities of\u00c2\u00a0Laurel’s day.<\/p>\n

I really enjoy fiddling with designs on the computer with my beloved BuzzEdit2 program.\u00c2\u00a0 Rarely does\u00c2\u00a0a stock embroidery composition suit me to a T, as I always seem to want more detail or less or a larger design or smaller.\u00c2\u00a0 I can’t draw or paint, but with BuzzEdit I can use individual components to create\u00c2\u00a0vignettes exactly as I imagine them.\u00c2\u00a0 It is much like using words to form a sentence or a poem.<\/p>\n

For this bodice, I began with three fish from Anita Goodesigns’\u00c2\u00a0 Baby Aloha<\/em> collection.\u00c2\u00a0 They are designed for applique, but I chose skip that\u00c2\u00a0technique to allow the lavender knit bodice serve as the fish body.\u00c2\u00a0 Simple circles were drawn in BuzzEdit2 for the silvery bubbles and the\u00c2\u00a0sea grass\u00c2\u00a0was taken from my greenery design folder, source unknown.<\/p>\n

Dakota Collectibles’ Aquarium Scenes<\/em> set has everything you could want to create an underwater scene.\u00c2\u00a0 I extracted the coral, yellow water plant and star fish to include in this design.<\/p>\n

When I bought the dress, I bought purple flip flops with sparkly silver straps.\u00c2\u00a0 My plan was to make toe bows, but I ran out of time.\u00c2\u00a0 This can be done later when I have a free moment.\u00c2\u00a0 I need to schedule some of those.\u00c2\u00a0 They just don’t seem to come round without a plan.<\/p>\n

My next project is for Laurel’s 7th birthday this weekend.\u00c2\u00a0 She is having a sleepover party so I want to make pajamas for her and a matching pair for her American Girls doll.\u00c2\u00a0Now that should be fun.\u00c2\u00a0 Meanwhile, when I read this little remembrance, I knew how true it was.<\/p>\n

Out bicycling\u00c2\u00a0 one day with my eight-year-old granddaughter,\u00c2\u00a0 I got a little wistful. “In ten years,’ I said, ‘you’ll want to be with your friends and you won’t go walking, biking, and swimming with me like you do now.” <\/em><\/span><\/div>\n
