that the font size she used transferred and is applied to this post.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m happy to have found a way to increase the size of the font.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I was also pleased to check out the rolled rose tutorial link Jenny Jo included.\u00c2\u00a0 She used this to make the blue rose on\u00c2\u00a0her 7 year-old&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0headband.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">So here is what Jenny Jo had to say about her Easter projects.\u00c2\u00a0I\u00c2\u00a0must disagree with her that these beautifully smocked\u00c2\u00a0frocks are not &#8220;heirloom quality.&#8221; Little girls have worn smocked dresses for hundreds of years and many of those frocks have been passed down the generations to the children and grandchildren of the original owner.\u00c2\u00a0 That makes\u00c2\u00a0them heirlooms!\u00c2\u00a0 The quality of Jenny Jo&#8217;s smocking and the love she put in each stitch make the dresses even more treasured.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00c2\u00a0Thank you, Jenny Jo, for sharing!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em>The dresses aren&#8217;t remotely heirloom quality; I just love the smocking. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em>The pattern is Prairie Rose by Annastasia Cruz at\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mytreasuredheirlooms.com\"><em>www.mytreasuredheirlooms.com<\/em><\/a><em>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I chose the pattern because it has all elastic and I&#8217;m intimidated by buttonholes and zippers!\u00c2\u00a0 I made a size 6 and a size 3 for a 7 year old and a 3 year old, respectively.\u00c2\u00a0 I think I should have made smaller sizes, especially with the size 6.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em>On both dresses I had gaping issues with the smocked section.\u00c2\u00a0 I tried various things to fix the gaping, including adding a bit of elastic behind the binding, which is obviously the cause of the rippling.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em>The smocking plate came with the pattern.\u00c2\u00a0 I smocked with Perle Cotton #8.\u00c2\u00a0 My dresses look a bit different becuase I pre-constructed the pink one and I didn&#8217;t consider that the ribon row had to be done\u00c2\u00a0BEFORE the construction.\u00c2\u00a0 So on the pink one, I just repeated elements of the lower half of the smocking plate in the place where the ribbon was supposed to be.\u00c2\u00a0 Both dresses are made with quilting weight cotton.\u00c2\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em>Yes, those are yo-yo&#8217;s on the headband.\u00c2\u00a0 As you know, I&#8217;ve been trying to teach my 7 year old some sewing and we recently had a class in which<\/em> <em>we made yo-yo&#8217;s and pom-poms.\u00c2\u00a0 The blue headband has a rolled rose.\u00c2\u00a0 I followed this tutorial\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/portabellopixie.typepad.com\/RolledRosesTutorial.pdf\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>http:\/\/portabellopixie.typepad.com\/RolledRosesTutorial.pdf<\/em><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em>I don&#8217;t know if we caught the attention of everyone we saw, but their grandmothers ooohed and aaaahed enough for dozens!
