read that it&#8217;s so dry in Texas\u00c2\u00a0that the Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling, the Methodists are using wet-wipes, the Presbyterians are giving out rain-checks and the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/jammie-set.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33209\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/jammie-set.jpg\" alt=\"jammie set\" width=\"464\" height=\"640\" 217w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So often, life is about compromises and lately, as I sit in my sewing room, my\u00c2\u00a0sewing has been\u00c2\u00a0all about that.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned in the previous post, my first grandchild, Laurel, \u00c2\u00a0just celebrated her 7th birthday.\u00c2\u00a0 I made a black and hot pink cake that was &#8220;out of my comfort zone.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 Rightly so, I\u00c2\u00a0denied my personal preference for pastels and flowers in deference to the birthday girl&#8217;s choice.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Because I wanted to make her cake I compromised&#8211;and revelled in her delight when I delivered\u00c2\u00a0it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/book.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-33210 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/book.jpg\" alt=\"book\" width=\"279\" height=\"360\" sizes=\"(max-width: 279px) 100vw, 279px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Easing back into my comfort zone, I made these pajamas for the slumber party portion of the festivities.\u00c2\u00a0 The basic pattern is from Martha Pullen&#8217;s <em>Sleepwear Especially for You.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While teaching in Huntsville at Martha Pullen&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0School of Art Fashion,\u00c2\u00a0I had admired several pairs of quick and easy pajamas made from this pattern by my\u00c2\u00a0friend Betty Ludwig for her niece.\u00c2\u00a0 Since seeing these, I\u00c2\u00a0have always wanted to make up a pair.\u00c2\u00a0 Even after this long wait, the project was not quite to my liking&#8212;because of the compromises I had to make.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33211\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/galoon.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33211\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33211\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/galoon.jpg\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ick!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In an effort to maintain my commitment to &#8220;modern projects for old fashioned Nanas,&#8221; I chose to use an easy care trim.\u00c2\u00a0 Few young mothers will take time to iron sleepwear.\u00c2\u00a0 Even few old fashioned Nanas would iron sleepwear!\u00c2\u00a0 So I was comfortable with my choice but not\u00c2\u00a0as comfortable working with less luxurious materials\u00c2\u00a0than usual.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly, better quality domestic trims are available, but this was in my stash and it worked.\u00c2\u00a0 An inordinate amount of time was spent trimming little eyelashes from the cut outs in the design before I gave it up as an endless effort.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The trim\u00c2\u00a0is relatively stiff, especially when compared to fine 100% cotton Swiss embroideries.\u00c2\u00a0 But it looks fresh and feminine, appropriate for a 7 year.\u00c2\u00a0 So that Laurel would have pretty every day(or night) pj&#8217;s, I\u00c2\u00a0traded my high standards of quality for practicality.\u00c2\u00a0 I compromised.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33212\" pj&#8217;s<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Tinkerbell embroidery design was chosen because\u00c2\u00a0I knew the girls would be watching a movie about this little sprite as they bedded down in front of the tv.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Both designs are from the Disney Tinkerbell card.\u00c2\u00a0 I did use a Swiss beading for the lime green\u00c2\u00a0 ribbon on either side of Tink, but\u00c2\u00a0that small amount\u00c2\u00a0should not need the touch of an iron.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/kit-jammies.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33213\" style=\"text-align: left;\">A matching set of\u00c2\u00a0pajamas was made for Laurel&#8217;s American Girls doll Molly.\u00c2\u00a0 I purchased this Kit doll for her birthday, but will give it to her at the family party next week.\u00c2\u00a0Lucky for me Laurel doesn&#8217;t read my blog!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For a pattern, I used the bodice from my pattern for the lace tape doll dress, eliminating the sleeves.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The bodice is lined, just like the doll dress.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0For the pants, I simply lengthened the bloomer pattern that goes with the dress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div id=\"attachment_33214\" style=\"width: 244px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a left;\">I had fun embroidering the tiny little Tinkerbell.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The design is actually monotone,\u00c2\u00a0as if it were an image of\u00c2\u00a0Tinkerbell&#8217;s shadow.\u00c2\u00a0 But by stitching slowly, it is clear where one\u00c2\u00a0section stops and another begins.\u00c2\u00a0 So I just added color where I wanted it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: class=\"wp-caption-text\">ick again<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The\u00c2\u00a0easy care\u00c2\u00a0domestic edging for the doll\u00c2\u00a0also was pulled from my\u00c2\u00a0stash.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0It&#8217;s not Swiss quality but it worked.\u00c2\u00a0 I choked, but I used it.\u00c2\u00a0 Another compromise.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Just as I was pondering all these matters, my Aunt Rheeta shared the little blurb about Texas\u00c2\u00a0at the top of this post.
