These could easily be converted to modern projects for this old fashioned Nana! You&#8217;ll enjoy making these bibs and want to make several they are ideal as gifts.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I found it interesting that in 1947 an equal amount of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/women-txt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-33237\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/women-txt-133x300.jpg\" alt=\"women txt\" width=\"133\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/women-txt-133x300.jpg 133w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/women-txt.jpg 259w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 133px) 100vw, 133px\" \/><\/a>smocking&#8211;2 pages&#8211;\u00c2\u00a0was included in\u00c2\u00a0 the women&#8217;s and children&#8217;s section.<\/p>\n<p>Also included were designs for trapunto as well as handkerchiefs and lingerie trims.\u00c2\u00a0 Aprons and monograms were prominently displayed while neckline and pocket embroideries were promoted.\u00c2\u00a0 Soutache and Chinese accents for dress\u00c2\u00a0 trims reflected the fashion of the day.\u00c2\u00a0 There were a great many cross stitch patterns in the women&#8217;s section as well as others.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently, it was a popular embellishment at that time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33238\" style=\"width: 422px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/lingerie-trims.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33238\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33238\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/lingerie-trims.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;Designed to trim dainty lingerie--these winged hearts, angels, doves, cupids and many lovely floral sprays will add a touch of loveliness to your lingerie. They are ideal for your hope chest and as gifts for your &#8220;just engaged&#8221; friends.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/household-txt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-33239 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/household-txt.jpg\" alt=\"household txt\" width=\"164\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The household section featured quilted bridge table covers&#8211;now that is something I have not seen in current pattern books.\u00c2\u00a0 Another needlework project no longer popular\u00c2\u00a0 was &#8220;chair back sets,&#8221; also known as antimacassars:<\/p>\n<p><em>definition: a small decorative cloth, often crochet, for the backs and arms of chairs and settees, originally intended as a protection\u00c2\u00a0against soiling from macassar oil, a compound oil from Indonesia used by men in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a \u00c2\u00a0hair oil.\u00c2\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Do you remember the <em>Man of Constant Sorrow<\/em>, Ulysses Everett McGill {George Cluny} and his fixation on his hair tonic?<\/p>\n<p>The other items in this section were much like designs \u00c2\u00a0you would find in Sew Beautiful magazine.\u00c2\u00a0 Floral monogram frames, more guest towels, sheets\u00c2\u00a0and pillow cases, placemats and napkins.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These berry designs really appealed to me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33240\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Berries1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33240\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33240\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Berries1.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;..graceful berries formed by French Knot clusters with graceful leavs worked in simple Outline Stitch.
