Making holiday outfits for the grandchildren is always fun.\u00c2\u00a0 They look forward to having special clothes and I look forward to seeing them wearing the things I have made.\u00c2\u00a0 Some holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, \u00c2\u00a0require an investment of far more time and materials than this summer celebration of independence and Americana.\u00c2\u00a0 Right now, quick and easy is what I like.<\/p>\n
Robert and Laurel are all set for this year’s festivities in\u00c2\u00a0 their matching shirts.\u00c2\u00a0 Alastair’s shirt has the same design.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0If all three are \u00c2\u00a0together for the Fourth, they will enjoy being part of a set.<\/p>\n

Because there are so many neat accessories for girls,\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel got the lion’s share of goodies.\u00c2\u00a0 Her shirt embroidery matches Robert’s, but her outfit also includes a skort, \u00c2\u00a0all-American flip flops and a hair bow.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The embroidery design is from the collection Celebrate the 4th, Set 2<\/em> by Designs by JuJu.\u00c2\u00a0 I took the flag from one design and the Star Spangled text from another.\u00c2\u00a0 The text read “Star Spangled Kid,’ which I used for Robert.\u00c2\u00a0 For Laurel, I extracted the letters a and l then rotated and fiddled with the\u00c2\u00a0 to make a capital.\u00c2\u00a0 She’s Star Spangled Gal.\u00c2\u00a0 (Girl was just too long,)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n This was all whipped up Saturday before Laurel’s dance recital.\u00c2\u00a0 I was in a rush so the bow wasn’t exactly what I wanted.\u00c2\u00a0 But it will work.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Robert’s shirt is just like Laurel’s except for the text which reads “kid.”\u00c2\u00a0 Just last week he got a dandy new ball cap with USA and some stars and strips embroidered on it.\u00c2\u00a0 So he will be decked out appropriately.<\/p>\n Our entire family is very patriotic and the little acorn children have not fallen far from the oak tree.\u00c2\u00a0 Robert (5) and Laurel (7) both recite the Pledge of Allegiance flawlessly, sing God Bless American and The Star Spangled Banner.\u00c2\u00a0 They\u00c2\u00a0 have memorized all\u00c2\u00a0 the words and understand them.\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel plans to begin teaching all this to 2 year-old Alastair soon.\u00c2\u00a0 Hmmmm…that should be interesting.<\/p>\n Their preliminary study of American history has left them pretty well informed as to the meaning of the celebration.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n before the parade<\/p><\/div>\n \n They will be flag waving\u00c2\u00a0 little Americans on July 4th as they watch cheer\u00c2\u00a0 the parade, watch\u00c2\u00a0 the fireworks, eat watermelon, and sing “I’m Proud to be and American.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Making holiday outfits for the grandchildren is always fun.\u00c2\u00a0 They look forward to having special clothes and I look forward to seeing them wearing the things I have made.\u00c2\u00a0 Some holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, \u00c2\u00a0require an … Continue reading <\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>
