{"id":1708,"date":"2009-09-18T23:38:57","date_gmt":"2009-09-19T03:38:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=1708"},"modified":"2015-01-17T23:24:04","modified_gmt":"2015-01-18T04:24:04","slug":"team-gear-for-little-fans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/18\/team-gear-for-little-fans\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Gear for Little Fans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/GatorBabyAl2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31347\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/GatorBabyAl2.jpg\" alt=\"GatorBabyAl\" width=\"366\" height=\"416\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/GatorBabyAl2.jpg 366w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/GatorBabyAl2-263x300.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 366px) 100vw, 366px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Football fans love to dress their children in team apparel.\u00c2\u00a0 These tiny, expensive togs come in such a limited variety that most fans are likely to see their child&#8217;s same duds being worn by\u00c2\u00a0the majority of the tots at the game.<\/p>\n<p>Customized ready-to-wear provides your little one with unique, affordable garb that sets him apart from the other junior fans.\u00c2\u00a0 You just need the visionary eye of a bargain shopper, an eye which can spot team colors an aisle away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This 100% cotton (VERY important for Florida infantwear) orange and blue Ralph Lauren Polo baby suit, originally priced at $70, was marked down to $17 on the clearance rack.\u00c2\u00a0 There were others in different colors, many of which I recognized as being suitable for other teams.\u00c2\u00a0 But hey, I only do Gator gear so they were still hanging when I was done shopping.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On these purchased outfits, the pockets were embroidered with the Lauren polo player. With the pocket removed,\u00c2\u00a0it was\u00c2\u00a0easy to take out the embroidery\u00c2\u00a0 using my trusty Olfa art knife.\u00c2\u00a0 It requires a gentle touch, but can slice through the bobbin threads allowing the embroidery to be picked out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Next, the pocket was spritzed with water and left to rest for some time to allow the threads to draw back in place.\u00c2\u00a0 Then it was pressed before\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 embroidering the retired fighting Gator.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The pocket was then sewn back onto the one-piece suit.\u00c2\u00a0 I wish I had taken the time to resew the buttons with orange thread.\u00c2\u00a0 That would have added a nice pop of color\u00c2\u00a0down the front.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">So many \u00c2\u00a0designs could easily work for other team mascots, i.e. tiger cub, bulldog, knight, elephant, longhorn (for you, Millie ;-)), train or whatever. <em>(Check earlier college football post for embroidery collections with junior mascot possibilities.)<\/em> In lieu of a mascot, the school initials or name could be embroidered on the pocket.\u00c2\u00a0 Just a football with the team name embroidered above or around it on a team color\u00c2\u00a0would\u00c2\u00a0make a dandy game day outfit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Few teams have unusual colors so finding appropriate solids is easy.\u00c2\u00a0 Combined with embroidery or appliqu\u00c3\u00a9, any single color can be joined with the other, creating a garment or outfit in team colors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/teamgearshortallsf1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31348\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/teamgearshortallsf1.jpg\" alt=\"teamgearshortallsf\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/teamgearshortallsf1.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/teamgearshortallsf1-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00c2\u00a0Two pairs of orange bib shortalls qualify as one of my best finds. There was some juvenile embroidery on a pocket on one leg but removing it would have been too hard.\u00c2\u00a0 So I embroidered a patch and sewed that over the existing design.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I also used Gator blue thread to stitch over the bar tacks.\u00c2\u00a0 This added just another little touch to the shortalls, making them look even more like they were made to be Gator attire.\u00c2\u00a0 These are for Alastair and, with any luck, a \u00c2\u00a0little sister some time in the future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/teamgearshortallsbclose1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31349\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/teamgearshortallsbclose1.jpg\" alt=\"teamgearshortallsbclose\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/teamgearshortallsbclose1.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/teamgearshortallsbclose1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">My favorite touch was the fighting Gator on the back.\u00c2\u00a0 On Alastair&#8217;s white golf shirt, I did a jeans stitch in blue along the cuff.\u00c2\u00a0 I bought two of these shortalls, the only ones availabl , both size 2.\u00c2\u00a0 Two of these shortalls were purchased for our older grandchildren, Laurel and Robert, who were 1 and 2 at the time.\u00c2\u00a0 But they didn&#8217;t fit the children for football season, so they were put aside.\u00c2\u00a0 The sister white tee\u00c2\u00a0had puffed sleeves and no suitable place for further embellishment.\u00c2\u00a0 The outfits were two-of-a-kind.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure they would have been the only children in these duds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Denim bib overalls or shortalls would work just as well.\u00c2\u00a0 My good friend Judy Day provided me with the inspiration, as she had done this some time ago on overalls for her grandson, but used her beloved Tennessee T.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Speaking of Tennessee, our Gators play them tomorrow.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a long day so we&#8217;ll need a lot of food.\u00c2\u00a0 We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re doing sloppy Joes, French bread and spinach dip, fruit salad, fresh salsa and corn chips, veggie tray, apple slices\u00c2\u00a0(apple pie made in a cookie sheet and drizzled with a vanilla frosting\u00c2\u00a0 glaze),\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 orange and blue cupcakes and cold veggie pizza.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The pizza\u00c2\u00a0is one of our favorite game day recipes.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The name sounds less than appealing but try it, you&#8217;ll like it!\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I first prepared it when Rebecca went vegetarian but all the meat eaters like it as much as she does.\u00c2\u00a0 Trust me, you will love this.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you have a great fall Saturday watching your favorite college team.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s good family fun.~~~~~~<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fresh Vegetable Pizza<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Comic Sans MS;\"><span lang=\"EN\"><strong>2 cans crescent rolls or 2 packages ready-made pizza crust<br \/>\n1 (8 ounces) cream cheese, at room temperature<br \/>\n1\/2 cup low-calorie mayonnaise<br \/>\n1 (1 ounce) package Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressing mix<br \/>\n1\/2 head fresh broccoli, remove stems, finely chop tops<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Comic Sans MS;\"><span lang=\"EN\"><strong><br \/>\n1 bunch spring onions with green tops, thinly sliced<br \/>\n1 small basket cherry or grape tomatoes<\/strong><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<strong>1\/2 cucumber, diced finely<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> 4 ounces (1 cup) grated cheddar cheese or shredded parmesan cheese<\/strong><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Comic Sans MS;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Comic Sans MS;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Comic Sans MS;\"><strong>Over the cream cheese filling, evenly scatter the vegetables in the following order: cucumbers, onions, broccoli, tomatoes and cheese. Make sure that entire cream cheese layer is evenly covered with vegetables to make a decorative multi-colored topping. Cover with plastic wrap and gently press vegetables into filling. Refrigerate until serving time. Cut into small squares of slices. <\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Comic Sans MS;\"><strong>VARIATION:\u00c2\u00a0 Any raw vegetables may be added or substituted for those used above, such as, olives, purple onions, celery, grated carrot, minced green pepper and diced summer squash.<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Comic Sans MS;\">Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease 17&#215;11-inch rectangular cookie sheet or a 16-inch round pizza pan. Thoroughly mix cream cheese, mayonnaise and package of Ranch dressing mix. Set aside while preparing and baking crust. Spread rolls or crust evenly over pan, pressing seams to seal. Bake for 12 minutes, until lightly golden brown. Cool completely. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Comic Sans MS;\"><strong>Prepare the vegetables by dicing finely, which will make slicing the finished pizza easier.
