{"id":17134,"date":"2011-07-31T05:45:07","date_gmt":"2011-07-31T09:45:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=17134"},"modified":"2014-12-31T23:59:17","modified_gmt":"2015-01-01T04:59:17","slug":"smocked-sunshine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/31\/smocked-sunshine\/","title":{"rendered":"Smocked Sunshine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> We&#8217;ve just returned home from our cabin in North Carolina.\u00c2\u00a0 I drove\u00c2\u00a0 11 hours (because I like to)\u00c2\u00a0 with two year-old Alastair\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;playing&#8221; his new harmonica, his mother applauding and praising his apparent musical genius, his father and I\u00c2\u00a0 singing along with the Pandora Oldies channel and\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;Granddan,&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 my dear husband,\u00c2\u00a0 shouting his opinion of\u00c2\u00a0 the calls and plays of\u00c2\u00a0 the old Gator football game he was watching on his I-Pad. Whew!!!!\u00c2\u00a0 I am realllly glad to be home.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It&#8217;s 2 a.m. and I&#8217;m off to bed, so\u00c2\u00a0 My Custom Stitch zig zag featherstitch files will be sent out later today.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 <em>This write up of Jo&#8217;s sweet smocked dress was written a few days ago so it would be ready to post.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32620\" style=\"width: 435px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Noel-1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32620\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-32620 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Noel-1.jpg\" alt=\"Noel-\" width=\"425\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Noel-1.jpg 425w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Noel-1-199x300.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-32620\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">flower child<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Is this not a gorgeous picture?\u00c2\u00a0 A gorgeous little girl?\u00c2\u00a0 A gorgeous little smocked dress?\u00c2\u00a0 I love everything about it, especially the curls and freckles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Jo made this dress for her daughter Noel.\u00c2\u00a0 The pattern is\u00c2\u00a0<em> Sunshine<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 from Australian Smocking and Embroidery #60. Always critical of her work, Jo said, &#8220;It&#8217;s too big and the light pink is too light.\u00c2\u00a0 But the piping is good.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m happy with it.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 And so you should be!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The style of the dress itself has so much appeal.\u00c2\u00a0 The way the smocking is set into the curved sleeve bands is unique and so pleasing with the piping.\u00c2\u00a0 The &#8220;N&#8221; for Noel strikes a chord with those of us who love a monogram.\u00c2\u00a0 The brown gingham is a perfect choice for the dress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It looked to me like the photo was taken at a nursery or botanical garden.\u00c2\u00a0 So\u00c2\u00a0 I asked Jo if\u00c2\u00a0 she\u00c2\u00a0 had grown the\u00c2\u00a0 flowers herself. \u00c2\u00a0 Her response made me laugh.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8220;I&#8217;m not sure you could say that I grew the flowers&#8211;I just water them every now and again!\u00c2\u00a0 Unfortunately, I have a black thumb.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I like to think that I have a green thumb, but if I could grow rudebekia like these, I&#8217;d be happy for my other thumb to be black.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>&#8220;A bee is never as busy as it seems. It&#8217;s just that it cannot buzz any slower.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em>\u00c2\u00a0<em> Kim Hubbard<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When I saw this quote, I thought of Jo. Then\u00c2\u00a0 I found the banner photo which is featured at the top of the page with the black-eyed susans and the bee, I knew it was alllllll about Jo. \u00c2\u00a0 With a degree in computer science, this mother of 5 homeschools the older two children while tending to the baby,\u00c2\u00a0 Noel and a little brother who will join his siblings at school this year.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Her husband, she reports, is very helpful, very hands on with the homeschooling.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Active in the local smocking guild, Jo will be presenting the program this month.\u00c2\u00a0 She is enrolled in her third course in photography at the local community college and is probably the star of her class.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I just love her pictures.\u00c2\u00a0 Check out the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?s=sister+easters  \"> earlier photo<\/a> of her two daughters\u00c2\u00a0 wearing their smocked Easter dresses.\u00c2\u00a0 <a title=\"Smocked Sister Easter Dresses\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/05\/04\/smocked-sister-easter-dresses\/\">http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?s=sister+easters\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In her spare time, Jo is refinishing her dining room table and teaching her 7 year old to sew!\u00c2\u00a0 Hurrah!
