Now, I have the granddaughter, she is the right size and I was ready to go.\u00c2\u00a0 All it needed was a smocked\u00c2\u00a0 Liberty of London tana lawn skirt. \u00c2\u00a0 How hard could it be?<\/p>\n<p>Before I got very far on the smocking, I thought it would be nice to add Florence Roberson&#8217;s smocked puffy pockets.\u00c2\u00a0 It took two full days to locate the <a title=\"Smocked Pocket Pattern\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/14\/smocked-pocket-pattern\/\">pattern<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/smocked-pocket-finished.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32783\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/smocked-pocket-finished.jpg\" alt=\"smocked-pocket-finished\" width=\"638\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/smocked-pocket-finished.jpg 638w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/smocked-pocket-finished-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/smocked-pocket-finished-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Before I pleated the pockets, the top may edge needed to be finished with a tiny hem or trimmed with lace.\u00c2\u00a0 Since I was using a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/29\/liberty-tanna-lawn-sundress\/\"> crocheted yoke<\/a>, a crocheted edge seemed in order. \u00c2\u00a0 My first and last crochet project was a pastel granny square baby blanket for my newborn daughter in 1978.\u00c2\u00a0 Hmmmmm&#8230;.so I pulled out some how-to needlework books and learned some simple, basic crochet.\u00c2\u00a0<em><strong> Continuing education<\/strong><\/em> is good!<\/p>\n<p>NOTE: The links above take you to\u00c2\u00a0 earlier post about the sundress and\u00c2\u00a0 pockets, which are just sweet as pie.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/At-Liberty-smock-front1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32784\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/At-Liberty-smock-front1.jpg\" alt=\"At Liberty smock front\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/At-Liberty-smock-front1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/At-Liberty-smock-front1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The skirt is smocked with Florence Roberson&#8217;s plate D<em>iamonds<\/em>, by Ellen McCarn.\u00c2\u00a0 Smocking on Liberty or any print presents the challenge of achieving enough contrast without &#8220;fighting&#8221; with the print.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I was pleased with the effect of sharply contrasting purple rows above and below the smocking. I had this mostly smocked when we went back to North Carolina to escape the heat, but managed to leave the dark purple floss behind!\u00c2\u00a0 <em><strong>Supply problem!!<\/strong><\/em>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 So I was delayed in finishing it until I could pick up more floss at the life-saving WalMart in Boone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/At-Liberty-smock-back1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32785\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/At-Liberty-smock-back1.jpg\" alt=\"At Liberty smock back\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/At-Liberty-smock-back1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/At-Liberty-smock-back1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The back is smocked without the points.<\/p>\n<p>Entredeux was joined to the outer edge of the yoke for ease in joining the skirt to the yoke.\u00c2\u00a0 Then it seemed like a good idea to use my newly acquired crochet skills to crochet around the yoke.\u00c2\u00a0 Talk about<em><strong> extended hours<\/strong><\/em>!
