But then my granddaughter snuggled up to me while I was on-line.\u00c2\u00a0 She saw Terri Click&#8217;s blog post about knitting at <a href=\"http:\/\/thethriftyneedle.wordpress.com\/2011\/08\/26\/summer-2011-knitting\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Thrifty Needle<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 and said she just had to learn how!\u00c2\u00a0 Because of the interest this post generated,\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve taught Laurel AND her mother to knit, which they now enjoy doing together in the evening. How sweet is that?\u00c2\u00a0 Thanks, Terri!<\/p>\n<p>Crochet is another needle art that I&#8217;ve put aside since edging a tiny diaper shirt for Laurel, now 7 years old.\u00c2\u00a0 But when Jeannie B., at <a href=\"http:\/\/oldfashionedbaby.blogspot.com\/search?updated-max=2011-08-25T06%3A07%3A00-05%3A00&amp;max-results=6    \">The Old Fashioned Baby Sewing Room<\/a>, posted pictures of receiving blankets with dainty crocheted edges, I pulled out those hooks.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18035\" style=\"width: 1122px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/yoke-crochet.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18035\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18035\" title=\"yoke crochet\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/yoke-crochet.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1112\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/yoke-crochet.jpg 1112w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/yoke-crochet-300x87.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/yoke-crochet-1024x298.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1112px) 100vw, 1112px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-18035\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A few rows of single crochet and a row of picots&#8211;not much but something I wouldn&#8217;t have done without the inspiration from Jeannie.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I\u00c2\u00a0 crocheted an edge around the smocked pocket and antique yoke on a<a title=\"Liberty Tana Lawn Sundress\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/29\/liberty-tanna-lawn-sundress\/\"> sundress<\/a> for Laurel.\u00c2\u00a0 Since then, I&#8217;ve started the edge on a flannel receiving blanket for a neighbor&#8217;s new baby girl.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s still above 80 degrees here at night, so I have some time before she will need it.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m really enjoying this.\u00c2\u00a0 Thanks, Jeannie!<\/p>\n<p>Applique&#8217; cord is a technique that has always intrigued me and I&#8217;ve made feeble but futile attempts to work this delicate stitch.\u00c2\u00a0 But after seeing Martha&#8217;s tutorial at\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/southernmatriarch.blogspot.com\/2011\/02\/applique-cord-tutorial.html\">The Southern Matriarch<\/a>, I feel like The Little Engine That Could.\u00c2\u00a0 I think I can!\u00c2\u00a0 I think I can! \u00c2\u00a0 On the next suitable project, I will tackle applique&#8217; cord with new resolve, also with the tutorial on the screen\u00c2\u00a0 in front of me.\u00c2\u00a0 Thank you, Martha!<\/p>\n<p>Aside from Martha&#8217;s information,\u00c2\u00a0 I found myself identifying with this new grandmother as I read her tender posts about The Princess, her new and first grandchild. \u00c2\u00a0 It brought back that overwhelming feeling of\u00c2\u00a0 love and connection to a tiny new life whose future can be all you dream. \u00c2\u00a0 I am sure many of you have experienced that same emotion.<\/p>\n<p>Jan at<a href=\"http:\/\/bessiemary.blogspot.com\/2011\/07\/where-i-sew.html\"> Bessie Mary<\/a> gave a photo tour of her fabulous new sewing room that inspired a major clean up of mine.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, it inspired the START of a major clean up.\u00c2\u00a0 Now I am motivated to redecorate and spruce up this room where I spend so much time.\u00c2\u00a0 She also displayed some really attractive, useful fabric baskets for storage of projects and sewing supplies.\u00c2\u00a0 Thanks, Jan!<\/p>\n<p>When I saw the smocked\u00c2\u00a0 daygown at<a href=\"http:\/\/meandmaude.blogspot.com\/\"> Me and Maude<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 (Maude is the name of her sewing machine!) that Prissy\/Merry made with a tiny print fabric, I wondered why I have been stuck in a solid color rut for so long. It has rested in the drawer unidentified for years.\u00c2\u00a0 Now I know it&#8217;s Lefkara, thanks to Cynthia at California Stitching.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Cynthia, at <a href=\"http:\/\/californiastitching.blogspot.com\/2011\/06\/old-linens-ii-lefkara-linens.html\">California Stitching<\/a> posted about Lefkara linens, of which it turns out I have many pieces!\u00c2\u00a0 I always wondered what was the nomenclature for such a style but never was able to identify it.\u00c2\u00a0 Now I know.\u00c2\u00a0 She also posts many beautiful handwork projects.\u00c2\u00a0 So much inspiration!
