shirt.\u00c2\u00a0 She especially loved the silver metallic stars.\u00c2\u00a0 but Laurel loves everything.\u00c2\u00a0 This little girl is the most enthusiastic kid I&#8217;ve ever known.\u00c2\u00a0 So maybe the shirt is not so special!<\/p>\n<p>Alastair, 2-1\/2 just began pre-school and loves it.\u00c2\u00a0 His shirt reflects his opinion of this new adventure.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m looking forward to his mother sending me a picture of him marching off to &#8220;school&#8221; in his shirt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Montessori-all1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33528\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Montessori-all1.jpg\" alt=\"Montessori-all\" width=\"527\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Montessori-all1.jpg 527w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Montessori-all1-247x300.jpg 247w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The designs (except for Montessori) are from<a href=\"http:\/\/embroidery-boutique.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Embroidery Boutique<\/a>, a site I discovered after seeing the shirt\u00c2\u00a0 made for her 1st grader by Lisa of<a href=\"http:\/\/mommysapronstrings.blogspot.com\/\"> Mommy&#8217;s Apron Strings<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 I love the instant download availability of designs from this site and others.<\/p>\n<p>These shirts are a far cry from the first-day-of-school dresses I made for my daughter so many years ago.\u00c2\u00a0 I especially remember her kindergarten dress.\u00c2\u00a0 A white pinafore smocked with Little Red Riding Hood was worn over a red gingham check yoke dress.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 But September is still\u00c2\u00a0 soooo hot in Florida. Rebecca looked adorable, but sweltered under 5 yards of skirt while romping on the playground.<\/p>\n<p>The next year, she wore Children&#8217;s Corner\u00c2\u00a0<em> Mary Ann<\/em>,\u00c2\u00a0 a white shirt with a blue poplin button-on pleated skirt. The shirt&#8217;s insert was smocked with an apple equation, 1 (apple) + 1 (apple) = 2 (apples).\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 With a bow in her hair and two front teeth missing, she was the quintessential 6-year old school girl.<\/p>\n<p>For pre-school Alastair and\u00c2\u00a0 homeschooled Robert and Laurel, these tee shirts are much more suitable for our climate and casual life style.\u00c2\u00a0 Still, I would love to make another smocked first-day-of-school dress.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe next year.<\/p>\n<p>Jo made an incredibly adorable penguin back pack for her son.
