Please indicate in your request if\u00a0 you would like 4&#215;4,\u00a0 5&#215;7 or\u00a0 both.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Free-ME-Baby-All21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33245\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Free-ME-Baby-All21.jpg\" alt=\"Baby Pillow\" width=\"640\" height=\"485\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Free-ME-Baby-All21.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Free-ME-Baby-All21-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been so hectic here these last few days that I haven&#8217;t had a minute to write up a post.\u00a0 We had two of our grandchildren, Robert, 6, and Laurel, 7, for two days of homeschool, county fair projects.<\/p>\n<p>The culmination of those two days was a family gathering for Saturday&#8217;s football game.\u00a0 We enjoyed every minute of our time together, except for the Gator loss to LSU.\u00a0 Just into the second quarter of the game fiasco,\u00a0 my DIL received this text message from a friend, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know what is more painful, watching this game or having my wisdom teeth extracted without Novocaine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Usually, Louisiana gal pal Linda McGehee calls during the game to congratulate or gloat, offer predictions and give\u00a0 Jack&#8217;s read on the game.\u00a0 This time, she was sensitive enough to just send a consolation e-mail, though her &#8220;Geaux Tigers&#8221; message title was less than sympathetic.\u00a0\u00a0 But today we have moved on and I&#8217;m ready to blog about sewing.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0 love stitching baby things, just like everyone.\u00a0 The idea of a precious new life, a sweet new member of the family, often inspires us to get out needle and thread.\u00a0 Whether we pick up a handsewing or machine needle, the urge to create something special for an innocent babe drives us to sew.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33246\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/BabyFilTire1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33246\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33246\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/BabyFilTire1.jpg\" alt=\"design scan\" width=\"640\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/BabyFilTire1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/BabyFilTire1-300x109.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-33246\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">design scan<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">According to my new 16-month calendar, there is no new grandbaby or\u00a0 special little one due.\u00a0 Still,\u00a0 I decided to drown my football sorrows by sewing something baby.\u00a0 So I pulled out a linen pillowcase blank and embroidered this fil tire&#8217; design.\u00c2\u00a0 It is no great effort, but it satisfied my need and helped me rank the importance of the\u00a0 loss in more realistic perspective.<\/p>\n<p>The linen pillowcase is one of many in my stash.\u00a0 It has a very nice cutwork edge, adding to its heirloom appearance.\u00a0 These are so handy to have.\u00a0 So handy, in fact, that I have a stack of them with the scallops as well as another pile with a hemstitched edge.<\/p>\n<p>The components of the 5 x 7\u00a0 design were all digitized by Suzanne Sawko, who loves emulating hand embroidery,\u00a0 and then put together by me.\u00a0 On this pillowcase, I tried to use brighter, more contemporary colors which seem to be favored by today&#8217;s young mothers. Madeira Cotona (or other fine heirloom thread) for fil tire&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>50-60 wt. cotton thread (DMC or Mettler): pink for zig zag frame and pinwheel roses, fresh green for tendrils, yellow for flower centers, dark pink for flowers<\/li>\n<li>30 wt. cotton thread (Mettler or Sulky) leaf green for leaves, blue for flowers<\/li>\n<li>needles: wing, #60-70 for fine thread, #80 for 30 wt. thread, small tapestry, #8 crewel<\/li>\n<li>NOTE:\u00a0 I have known many who stitch the entire design, except for the fil tire&#8217; and the tendrils, with regular 40 wt. machine embroidery thread.\u00a0 You can skip the tendrils if you don&#8217;t have any fine green thread.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DIRECTIONS:\u00a0 NOTE:\u00a0 Clip jump threads as soon as possible while design is stitching.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0The pillowcase seams were opened to allow the linen to be hooped with water soluble stabilizer.<\/li>\n<li>2. With a wing needle or a 100 or 110 sharp, the fil tire&#8217; is stitched.<\/li>\n<li>3.\u00a0 Wing needle is replaced with 60-70 needle and threaded with fine fresh green thread.<\/li>\n<li>4.\u00a0 Pink 50-60 wt. thread is used for zig zag frame around fil tire&#8217;.<\/li>\n<li>5.\u00a0 #80 needle is inserted and threaded with leaf green 30 wt. for leaves.<\/li>\n<li>6.\u00a0 Blue 30 wt. thread for flowers.<\/li>\n<li>7. Yellow for flower centers.<\/li>\n<li>8.\u00a0 Bright pink for yellow flower surround and buds.<\/li>\n<li>9.\u00a0 Leaf green for bud surround.<\/li>\n<li>10.\u00a0 Pink for pinwheel rose base.<\/li>\n<li>11.\u00a0 Leaf green for &#8220;Baby&#8221; text.<\/li>\n<li>12.\u00a0 With 12 strands of pink thread or 6 strands embroidery floss, thread tapestry needle.\u00a0 Make small knot at end and come up near the center.\u00a0 Weave strands over and under the web rose spokes and finish with French knot in center.<\/li>\n<li>13.\u00a0 With 6 strands of yellow thread or matching embroidery floss, work French knots in centers of blue flowers.<\/li>\n<li>14.\u00a0 Sew up seams and stuff with baby pillow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I would love to have put a baby&#8217;s name in the fil tire&#8217; rectangle, but settled for &#8220;Baby.&#8221;\u00a0 That is stitched at the last color stop, so it is easy enough to delete &#8220;Baby&#8221;\u00a0 and add the text of your choice.<\/p>\n<p>This design would also look nice on a blanket.\u00a0 I hope some of you will stitch it out and share a picture with us.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UPDATE: I&#8217;ve just edited the design to fit the 4&#215;4 hoop.
