{"id":18909,"date":"2011-10-21T22:26:33","date_gmt":"2011-10-22T02:26:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=18909"},"modified":"2011-10-25T17:08:21","modified_gmt":"2011-10-25T21:08:21","slug":"too-cute-to-spook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/21\/too-cute-to-spook\/","title":{"rendered":"Too Cute to Spook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UPDATE: Picture of Alastair in his Halloween bat shirt added.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-SHirts-21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18913\" title=\"Halloween SHirts 2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-SHirts-21.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1005\" height=\"895\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-SHirts-21.jpg 1005w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-SHirts-21-300x267.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1005px) 100vw, 1005px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are so many darling Halloween designs for machine embroidery that I had a hard time picking out just a few for my grandchildren.\u00c2\u00a0 Since these shirts can be worn for such a short time, I didn&#8217;t put a lot of work into them.\u00c2\u00a0 But the embroidery is so well designed that are plenty cute for this short season of tackiness.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-Shirt-Lclose-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18916\" title=\"Halloween Shirt Lclose-1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-Shirt-Lclose-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"1280\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-Shirt-Lclose-1.jpg 960w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-Shirt-Lclose-1-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-Shirt-Lclose-1-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Laurel&#8217;s shirt started with a <em>Too Cute to Spook<\/em> design from one of my favorite sites, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetapplique.com\">Planet Applique&#8217;<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0 Before I started the embroidery, it was announced that the homeschool Halloween party would be outdoors.\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel&#8217;s<em>\u00c2\u00a0 Lucy of Narnia<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 costume is a dress with a long skirt, which wouldn&#8217;t\u00c2\u00a0 be suitable for a good time on the playground.\u00c2\u00a0 So her mother said for this event Laurel would wear all black and sport cat ears on her head.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Consequently, I removed the cute pumpkin from the design but left the text and stars.<\/p>\n<p>Editing software is invaluable.\u00c2\u00a0 With BuzzEdit 2, I customized the design by\u00c2\u00a0 inserting the cat and moon design from Babylock&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0 <em>Happy Halloween<\/em> collection. It is a heavily shaded, embroidered moon,\u00c2\u00a0 with nearly 40,000 stitches&#8211;far too many for a thin knit shirt to support.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 For that reason, a candy corn fabric was applique&#8217;d in place of the embroidered moon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-Shirt-Rclose.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18917\" title=\"Halloween Shirt Rclose\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-Shirt-Rclose.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"1280\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-Shirt-Rclose.jpg 960w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-Shirt-Rclose-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Halloween-Shirt-Rclose-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I was really tickled with the design I used for Robert&#8217;s shirt, though it is very poorly executed.\u00c2\u00a0 Amy, whose<a title=\"Girlie Team Gear\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2010\/09\/19\/girlie-team-gear\/\"> several<\/a> darling<a title=\"Samantha and John Deere\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/22\/samantha-and-john-deere\/\"> outfits<\/a> have been <a title=\"Gobble\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/11\/25\/gobble\/\">featured<\/a> on this blog, recommended <a href=\"http:\/\/www.appliquecorner.com\/\">Applique Corner<\/a> to me and it is an absolutely fabulous site!\u00c2\u00a0 This gal has done some extremely creative designs, using ribbons and other materials.\u00c2\u00a0 The mummy design on Robert&#8217;s shirt uses strips cut from an old white tee shirt.<\/p>\n<p>But you really <em>should<\/em> read the directions carefully when you are trying something quite new.\u00c2\u00a0 The strips are laid in place,\u00c2\u00a0 held down with water soluble stabilizer and then secured in place with an outline stitch.\u00c2\u00a0 You then trim away the strips EXCEPT FOR TWO OR THREE, according to the designer.\u00c2\u00a0 Then a satin stitch is worked around the mummy.\u00c2\u00a0 I overlooked the part about two or three.<\/p>\n<p>This little mummy looked more like a rag mop when I was done.\u00c2\u00a0 After reading the directions, I trimmed most of the strips, but the edges hang out over the satin stitching and still I left too many hanging.\u00c2\u00a0 As I was reaching for another black tee shirt to re-do the shirt, I did a mental head whack to remind myself that this a kid&#8217;s fun shirt, for cryin&#8217;
