{"id":1891,"date":"2009-09-27T23:58:35","date_gmt":"2009-09-28T03:58:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=1891"},"modified":"2014-12-12T02:26:27","modified_gmt":"2014-12-12T07:26:27","slug":"antique-carriage-baby-shawl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/27\/antique-carriage-baby-shawl\/","title":{"rendered":"Antique Carriage Baby Shawl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/AntCarriage-shaw1-white1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-32045 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/AntCarriage-shaw1-white1.jpg\" alt=\"AntCarriage shaw1 white\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/AntCarriage-shaw1-white1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/AntCarriage-shaw1-white1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve probably made a dozen of these antique carriage baby shawls in the past few years and I never get tired of it.\u00c2\u00a0 This project is both modern AND old fashioned.\u00c2\u00a0 For me, it doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get much better than that.<\/p>\n<p>It old fashioned because it is made of 100% cotton heirloom goods with an old fashioned design.\u00c2\u00a0 It is modern because gracefully endures heavy laundering and even looks good (but not best) \u00c2\u00a0without ironing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/antcarriageshawlcrib11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32046\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/antcarriageshawlcrib11.jpg\" alt=\"antcarriageshawlcrib1\" width=\"640\" height=\"446\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/antcarriageshawlcrib11.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/antcarriageshawlcrib11-300x209.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Swiss flannel and a sturdy English lace provide durability while the machine embroidery designs provide nostalgic charm.\u00c2\u00a0 I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve made this in two sizes, 30 x 30 and 36\u00e2\u20ac\u009d x 30.\u00c2\u00a0 My daughter-in-law loved the 30\u00e2\u20ac\u009d square for a nursing cover up.\u00c2\u00a0 It was light weight enough that neither she nor my summer grandbabies sweltered in order to maintain her modesty.\u00c2\u00a0 The larger size is nice for wrapping or covering older babies.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/carriage-close-xx.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32047\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/carriage-close-xx.jpg\" alt=\"carriage close xx\" width=\"640\" height=\"629\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/carriage-close-xx.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/carriage-close-xx-300x294.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The appliqu\u00c3\u00a9d antique carriage and the floral sprigs are from one of the embroidery design collections done by my friend Suzanne Sawko and me<em>, Fil Tire\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and Fancywork Elements<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The appliqu\u00c3\u00a9 material is a 4\u00e2\u20ac\u009dsquare of fil tire\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 created in the hoop, using a wing needle, Madeira Cotona 80 wt. thread and a separate design.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0The fil tire\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 piece creates the three dimensional effect of wicker.<\/p>\n<p>As the embroideries are joined with feather stitching, a frame is created inside the perimeter of the lace.\u00c2\u00a0 By joining the lace with a pin stitch, you have the option of weaving floss through the holes and adding another touch of color.<\/p>\n<p>One reason that I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve made this so many times is its versatility.\u00c2\u00a0 The carriage is truly a unisex design. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0On white Swiss flannel, with a white or yellow carriage, it is gender neutral.\u00c2\u00a0 With a pink or blue carriage, you have a boy or girl shawl.\u00c2\u00a0 It is neither too frilly nor too masculine for either gender.<\/p>\n<p>One of my favorites was yellow Swiss flannel with a blue carriage and blue silk flower embroidery.\u00c2\u00a0 My 7 month old grandson still snuggles under that one, but if I can borrow it back, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll include a picture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
