{"id":19947,"date":"2011-12-16T00:01:03","date_gmt":"2011-12-16T05:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=19947"},"modified":"2011-12-20T17:23:11","modified_gmt":"2011-12-20T22:23:11","slug":"boys-christmas-vest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/16\/boys-christmas-vest\/","title":{"rendered":"Boy&#8217;s Christmas Vest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC04499.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19950\" title=\"DSC04499\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC04499.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"876\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC04499.jpg 876w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DSC04499-300x291.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 876px) 100vw, 876px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Six year-old Robert&#8217;s Christmas vest is finally ready.\u00c2\u00a0 With dress pants and shoes, he will look very grown up.\u00c2\u00a0 Initially,\u00c2\u00a0 a vest was not what I wanted for the little guy I have dressed in smocked <a title=\"Gingerbread Christmas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/07\/gingerbread-christmas\/\">rompers<\/a> and<a title=\"Candy Cane Christmas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/12\/02\/candy-cane-christmas\/\"> Jon-Jons<\/a> for Christmases past.\u00c2\u00a0 Sadly, there will be no more button-on suits for my towheaded boy.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, his skinny little bird legs don&#8217;t look as good in short pants as they did when he was a toddler.\u00c2\u00a0 That boy needs to eat more gingerbread and pumpkin pie, which he would do happily if he didn&#8217;t have to eat his vegetables first.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Rvest-LXmas10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20017\" title=\"Rvest LXmas10\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Rvest-LXmas10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"927\" height=\"1023\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Rvest-LXmas10.jpg 927w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Rvest-LXmas10-271x300.jpg 271w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 927px) 100vw, 927px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Robert is no great fan of picture taking, but I did manage to get this shot of him wearing the vest after church on Sunday.\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel, always cooperative, wore last year&#8217;s<a title=\"Christmas Dress \u00e2\u20ac\u212210\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/15\/christmas-dress-10\/\"> Christmas dress<\/a> with the hem dropped. The obvious crease mark is covered by a narrow tuck, bordered top and bottom with a 6mm twin needle serpentine stitch.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Christmas-vest-R-back.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19959\" title=\"Christmas vest R back\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Christmas-vest-R-back.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"1280\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Christmas-vest-R-back.jpg 960w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Christmas-vest-R-back-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Christmas-vest-R-back-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Robert is a big boy now and I am somewhat reconciled to the fact that he is growing up. Not completely, but somewhat.<\/p>\n<p>He looks so much like his father did at this age, except for the skinny legs.\u00c2\u00a0 For Christmas 1980, my own six-year old towhead Ryan wore a hunter green velveteen eton suit with an ivory shirt.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It was smocked with a toy soldier at each shoulder.\u00c2\u00a0 At the Sunday School Christmas Eve program, he played a piano solo, Good\u00c2\u00a0 King Wenceslas, while my heart swelled with love and pride. Ahh&#8230;the memories.\u00c2\u00a0 But I digress.\u00c2\u00a0 Back to the vest.<\/p>\n<p>Robert loves it and said he&#8217;d like one in black like the velveteen dress Laurel was wearing.\u00c2\u00a0 After Christmas, I&#8217;ll get right on that.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m really tired of making him sports tee shirts, so this will be a welcome change in projects for him.<\/p>\n<p>My friend Suzanne, grandmother to four boys, suggested the vest&#8217;s front pocket.\u00c2\u00a0 For several years, she has made vests for these grandsons and likes to add a pocket with a holiday handkerchief.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Christmas-vest-R-pocket.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19952\" title=\"Christmas vest R pocket\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Christmas-vest-R-pocket.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Christmas-vest-R-pocket.jpg 1280w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Christmas-vest-R-pocket-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Christmas-vest-R-pocket-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course, boys being boys, the &#8220;handkerchief&#8221;
