{"id":21214,"date":"2012-02-29T17:14:15","date_gmt":"2012-02-29T22:14:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=21214"},"modified":"2014-03-14T02:46:11","modified_gmt":"2014-03-14T06:46:11","slug":"spring-and-black-velvet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2012\/02\/29\/spring-and-black-velvet\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring and Black Velvet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/collar-close-all3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29727\" alt=\"collar close all\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/collar-close-all3.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/collar-close-all3.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/collar-close-all3-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It may seem that Laurel&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0 black velveteen dress is out of season.\u00c2\u00a0 But the weather this time of year in central Florida can be freezing or almost hot.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Today, it is 80 degrees (I&#8217;m not complaining!) but a week ago it was freezing.\u00c2\u00a0 So her church clothes wardrobe requires seasonal variety.<\/p>\n<p>The black velveteen basic yoke &#8217;10 Christmas dress still fits, though the hem had to be dropped.\u00c2\u00a0 Hurrah for 6&#8243; hems!\u00c2\u00a0 With a few 6mm twin needle tucks and a border of serpentine stitching the crease was invisible and the skirt was long enough.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/EarlyThanxLdressporchclose.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29728\" alt=\"EarlyThanxLdressporchclose\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/EarlyThanxLdressporchclose.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/EarlyThanxLdressporchclose.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/EarlyThanxLdressporchclose-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">As I began planning a collar to go over this dress, I recalled a box of ready-made collars that was packed away.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Included in the treasure trove were commercially embroidered collars from a children&#8217;s manufacturer outlet, and tatted Chinese collars in both adult and child size, square, round and oval and this shadow embroidered beauty.\u00c2\u00a0 These had been forgotten far too long, though most of them soon will be posted for sale and looking for a new home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Spring-Black-Velvet-embroidery1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29729\" alt=\"Spring Black Velvet embroidery\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Spring-Black-Velvet-embroidery1.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Spring-Black-Velvet-embroidery1.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Spring-Black-Velvet-embroidery1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">With Easter looming and no outfits yet started, I celebrated my hoarding tendencies and put the collar to work. Heavy rain and winds blew most of the petals off the day they opened. But still, the lacy white branches make me smile.
