When I asked her to let me take a few pictures, she replied, &#8220;Please hurry, Nana!\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;re going for a night swim!&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 So there you have it&#8211;this was the best I could do.\u00c2\u00a0 Please imagine it freshly pressed, as it was before the church supper.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Double-Drawn-Pink_Linen-dress-M-copy.png.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23414\" title=\"Double-Drawn-Pink_Linen-dress-M copy.png\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Double-Drawn-Pink_Linen-dress-M-copy.png.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"484\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Double-Drawn-Pink_Linen-dress-M-copy.png.jpg 293w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Double-Drawn-Pink_Linen-dress-M-copy.png-181x300.jpg 181w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/allaboutblanks.com\/Baby-Clothing.htm\">All About Blanks<\/a> carries these 60% ramie\/40% cotton dresses ($24) and they are wonderful.\u00c2\u00a0 There is a double row of drawn thread work at the hemline while the neck and armscyses are bound with self bias.\u00c2\u00a0 They come in white and pink sizes 12M to 6, though currently many sizes are temporarily out of stock.\u00c2\u00a0 It also comes in yellow dotted Swiss ($28) but only up to size 4. \u00c2\u00a0 Note that they run almost a size large. Eight year old Laurel is on the small side of average and wears this 6 quite comfortably.\u00c2\u00a0 I made up a <a title=\"Ladybug~Fill in the Blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/05\/31\/ladybugfill-in-the-blank\/\">white one<\/a> last year (size 5) that she can still wear.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/bodice-close1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33691\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/bodice-close1.jpg\" alt=\"bodice close\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/bodice-close1.jpg 480w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/bodice-close1-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now about the embroidery, about which I am pretty pleased.\u00c2\u00a0 <!--more-->The designs are from<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greatnotions.com\/pr\/packs\/Great-Notions\/Lu-lu-in-Paris\/1\/lp01111571.aspx\"> Lulu in Paris <\/a>by Great Notions.\u00c2\u00a0 There are two Eiffel towers in this collection, one featuring Lulu herself perched on the iconic structure.\u00c2\u00a0 But it was too large (5 x 7) to fit on the bodice of this size 6 dress.\u00c2\u00a0 The simpler, smaller tower (4&#215;4) would look nice, I thought, with Paris written below.\u00c2\u00a0 But once again, the design was too large.\u00c2\u00a0 So Paris was just superimposed on the tower and that works.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/oohlala-back-hem1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33692\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/oohlala-back-hem1.jpg\" alt=\"oohlala back hem\" width=\"635\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/oohlala-back-hem1.jpg 635w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/oohlala-back-hem1-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/oohlala-back-hem1-298x300.jpg 298w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the hemline, several French phrases are embroidered.\u00c2\u00a0 She and her brother study Latin so I&#8217;m always pointing out root words to them.\u00c2\u00a0 So I explained the root and meaning of\u00c2\u00a0 Merci, Bonjour, Je t&#8217;aime, ooh la la, oui oui, Joie de vivre (try explaining that to an 8 year old!) which are embroidered just above the drawn threadwork<\/p>\n<p>The border hoop for my Quattro has been sitting idle so I thought this would be a good time to give it a try.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, the text phrases aren&#8217;t really a border, but I learned about hooping, slipping the fabric through, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 It was so much faster and easier than regular hooping for 6 designs.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a good intro for me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/oohlala-back1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33693\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/oohlala-back1.jpg\" alt=\"oohlala back\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/oohlala-back1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/oohlala-back1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On one\u00c2\u00a0 back yoke, another design was added, for rear view interest.\u00c2\u00a0 There was no time to replace the buttons with mother-of-pearl, so I simply restitched them in black.\u00c2\u00a0 A black triple straight stitch was worked around the neckline and armscyes but that gave me a lot of trouble.\u00c2\u00a0 Being in a hurry seemed to make this very difficult.\u00c2\u00a0 No one at the supper seemed to notice the imperfections, though.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>UPDATE<\/strong><\/em>~~I just checked the <a title=\"Ladybug~Fill in the Blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/05\/31\/ladybugfill-in-the-blank\/\">blog on the white dress<\/a> I embroidered with ladybugs for Laurel.\u00c2\u00a0 I should have checked sooner&#8211;no wonder I had trouble with the top stitching this time.\u00c2\u00a0 I used 60 wt. thread.
