{"id":23876,"date":"2012-08-03T22:19:25","date_gmt":"2012-08-04T02:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=23876"},"modified":"2013-02-01T21:27:15","modified_gmt":"2013-02-02T02:27:15","slug":"s-o-s-its-a-girl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/03\/s-o-s-its-a-girl\/","title":{"rendered":"S O S ~It&#8217;s a Girl!!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_1908\" style=\"width: 729px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/bonnetzigzag4.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1908\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-1908\" title=\"bonnetzigzag4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/bonnetzigzag4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"719\" height=\"831\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/bonnetzigzag4.jpg 719w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/bonnetzigzag4-259x300.jpg 259w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 719px) 100vw, 719px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1908\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I need some of the lining fabric used on this bonnet.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Most of my last week was spent across the state with my pregnant daughter, Rebecca,\u00c2\u00a0 and 3 year old grandson, Alastair.\u00c2\u00a0 Son-in-law Harvey was among the 10,000!!!!!\u00c2\u00a0 bikers riding in the <a href=\"http:\/\/ragbrai.com\/about\/general-information\/\">RAGBRAI<\/a> <strong>500<\/strong> mile safari through Iowa.\u00c2\u00a0 On purpose.\u00c2\u00a0 In July.\u00c2\u00a0 With no pressure from family or friends.\u00c2\u00a0 And he loved it!\u00c2\u00a0 Go figure.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in those hectic days, Rebecca had a sonogram which gave us the wonderful news&#8211;it&#8217;s a girl!\u00c2\u00a0 This little bundle of joy is due to arrive sometime around Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>I am beside myself, whirling around here in high gear.\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel, our only other granddaughter, is 8 years old now, so my kind of smocking and little girl sewing is slowing down, being replaced (as per her request) by more contemporary, young lady projects.<\/p>\n<p>But now a baby girl&#8211;oh my!!!!!\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m pulling out all my<em> Creative Needle<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 Baby Issues, <em>Sew Beautiful<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 mags, baby daygown and accessory patterns and reveling in the options.\u00c2\u00a0 Precious handlooms, antique laces and unique Swiss embroideries are scattered around the sewing room in stacks for careful review.<\/p>\n<p>There are <strong>two minor emergencies<\/strong>, though, with which I hope one of you readers might be able to help me.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>EMERGENCY #1~NEED THIS FABRIC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/lawn.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23879\" title=\"lawn\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/lawn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"536\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/lawn.jpg 536w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/lawn-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 536px) 100vw, 536px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Can you believe that I actually <em>need<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 fabric?\u00c2\u00a0 Not just any fabric but this pattern specifically.\u00c2\u00a0 When I made the <a title=\"Zig Zag Bonnet\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2012\/02\/22\/zig-zag-bonnet\/\">zig zag bonnet<\/a> shown above, I planned to make a white Swiss flannel daygown to match, using some of the remaining 2-4 yards of this print for trim.\u00c2\u00a0 I planned to use it only for the neck binding and perhaps the front button placket. This was all with the expectation that Rebecca&#8217;s Baby #1 would be a girl.\u00c2\u00a0 Wrong. Instead we got precious Alastair, and we&#8217;re glad.<\/p>\n<p>So I put the bonnet aside and taught the class many, many times around the country.\u00c2\u00a0 Each time I provided kits with this fabric.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently, I used it all up because after plundering through my stash, this small 3 x 6&#8243; It just finished blooming heavily and seems to be taking a break. It is lush, uninfested&#8211; not another caterpillar cafeteria.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A few years ago, I had planted fennel as a host plant for the Eastern Black Swallowtails.\u00c2\u00a0 The lacy spire grew full and aromatic with its licorice scent.\u00c2\u00a0 Months later,\u00c2\u00a0 in a matter of days, the 4&#8242; plant was stripped bare to the stems! After the caterpillar larvae spun chrysalises, Robert and Laurel helped me wrap the plant in tulle to protect themfrom wasps. \u00c2\u00a0 Soon we had a glorious flock of butterflies.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23886\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/800px-Black_Swallowtail_male_Ottawa.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23886\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-23886\" title=\"800px-Black_Swallowtail,_male,_Ottawa\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/800px-Black_Swallowtail_male_Ottawa.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/800px-Black_Swallowtail_male_Ottawa.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/800px-Black_Swallowtail_male_Ottawa-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-23886\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eastern Black Swallowtail<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;ve planted more and more fennel, regular and bronze, both of which are lush but have nary a nibble.\u00c2\u00a0 Now, lately I have noticed several Easter Black Swallowtails flitting about the plumbago and angelonia.\u00c2\u00a0 Could the passion vine be their nursery?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23914\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/angelonia.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23914\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-23914\" title=\"angelonia\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/angelonia-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/angelonia-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/angelonia-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/angelonia.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-23914\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Angelonia planter beside the garage.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Do these caterpillars look like EB Swallowtail juveniles?\u00c2\u00a0Do you know if they eat passion vine?
