{"id":23994,"date":"2012-08-11T00:02:15","date_gmt":"2012-08-11T04:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=23994"},"modified":"2013-02-01T21:26:05","modified_gmt":"2013-02-02T02:26:05","slug":"baby-slip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/11\/baby-slip\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby Slip"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_24098\" style=\"width: 899px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/slip2.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24098\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24098\" title=\"slip2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/slip2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"889\" height=\"1054\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/slip2.jpg 889w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/slip2-253x300.jpg 253w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/slip2-863x1024.jpg 863w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 889px) 100vw, 889px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-24098\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Swiss flannel Old Fashioned Baby slip with hand embroidery\u00e2\u20ac\u201dyes, I embroidered this by hand!\u00c2\u00a0 Here at the cabin, this quilt was the only thing I could find to use as a background.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While we at here our cabin in North Carolina, I am enjoying some uninterrupted sewing time.\u00c2\u00a0 This is the first project I have finished (except for buttons and buttonholes) for Grandbaby Girl #2, due around Christmas.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 December weather in Florida could be 28 or 90 degrees.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 So for a start, I am planning several daygowns and at least one Swiss flannel slip for cool days.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fs-close21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-24000\" title=\"fs close2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fs-close21-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fs-close21-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fs-close21-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fs-close21.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This should have been a quick and easy project, but it has taken me several days.\u00c2\u00a0 Once again I am actively pursing the achievement of an acceptable feather stitch.\u00c2\u00a0 I think I just barely made the grade this time, but it took me FOREVER!!!!\u00c2\u00a0 First, I had to study all my embroidery books and then go to on-line tutorials and finally YouTube demonstrations.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The problem is that I want this stitch to look good NOW!\u00c2\u00a0 Clearly, no amount of\u00c2\u00a0 extensive study and mental preparation are enough to achieve a perfect stitch.\u00c2\u00a0 It takes practice.\u00c2\u00a0 I spent more than two hours on the first 6&#8243; before I realized that ripping it out didn&#8217;t make the next stitches any prettier.\u00c2\u00a0 Better, it seemed, to keep on keeping on and get the practice.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Even with uneven stitching, the effect, I think,\u00c2\u00a0 is pleasing&#8212;if you don&#8217;t look too closely.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern is Jeannie B&#8217;s OFB <em>Smocked Baby Clothes<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/layette-patt1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23898\" title=\"layette patt\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/layette-patt1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"518\" height=\"819\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/layette-patt1.jpg 518w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/layette-patt1-189x300.jpg 189w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 518px) 100vw, 518px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is sweet and simple, perfect for any embellishments you might want to add.\u00c2\u00a0 Instead of lace edging,\u00c2\u00a0 a Swiss tiny embroidery was chosen because fresh out of the dryer it looks okay&#8211;but not great.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d like it to be user friendly.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m still undecided about the embroidery shown on the pattern at the front neckline. \u00c2\u00a0 Even soft pastel embroidery might shadow\u00c2\u00a0 through an unsmocked yoke, but the slip looks so much sweeter with it.\u00c2\u00a0 What do you think?<\/p>\n<p>Did you notice the fabric under the slip?\u00c2\u00a0 YES!\u00c2\u00a0 The print I desperately needed arrived from <a href=\"http:\/\/chadwickheirlooms.com\">Chadwick Heirlooms<\/a>, thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/merrygayinstitches.blogspot.com\/\">Merry Gay<\/a> who located it for me.\u00c2\u00a0 I reeeeally appreciate that!<\/p>\n<p>Now, off I go to project #2.\u00c2\u00a0 I am using an old pattern for this next outfit and wonder if any of you use old patterns.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Or if you replaced them with newer ones with better directions and illustrations? \u00c2\u00a0 Let me know, okay?\u00c2\u00a0 I am curious.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While we at here our cabin in North Carolina, I am enjoying some uninterrupted sewing time.\u00c2\u00a0 This is the first project I have finished (except for buttons and buttonholes) for Grandbaby Girl #2, due around Christmas.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 December weather in Florida &hellip;
