At the last minute, I decided to join my darling daughter Rebecca on her trip to our family cabin <\/a>in the mountains of North Carolina.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 We loaded the car with her\u00c2\u00a0 four year-old Alastair, 9 month old Vivian Rose and the children’s\u00c2\u00a0 great Auntie Jeannette who is younger-than- springtime\u00c2\u00a0even though she is almost my age.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 We\u00c2\u00a0 drove through the night while the children slept.<\/p>\n

Amid the glorious fall colors, we are enjoying fabulous fun and quality family time.<\/p>\n

When we arrived, I was pleased to see this\u00c2\u00a0 fall pumpkin pillow<\/a> nestled on the couch,\u00c2\u00a0 announcing the season.<\/p>\n

I’ve managed to get a little smocking done but will share that project with you later.\u00c2\u00a0 Meanwhile,\u00c2\u00a0 I came across this post draft\u00c2\u00a0 written earlier in the summer and want to share it with you.\u00c2\u00a0 This shop might have something you’ve been looking for.\u00c2\u00a0 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<\/p>\n

After several days of quiet at the cabin, we drove down the mountain and into Boone, about 10 miles away.\u00c2\u00a0 I always like to stop at the only sewing spot in the area, a great shop called \u00c2\u00a0 Sew Original<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Quilting seems to be their main focus, but they also have have lovely heirloom fabrics and smocking supplies.\u00c2\u00a0 There were racks of new patterns but also some old classics that I rarely see in other stores, like Sarah Hoard Stone’s Basic Yoke<\/em> in every size.\u00c2\u00a0 This is one which I have used very frequently, for Rebecca years ago and recently for granddaughter Laurel Cade.<\/p>\n

Sew Original also has the optional pattern packages for her second book, French Handsewing for Infants<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I treasure these patterns.<\/p>\n

I was sorely tempted by a bolt of pique’ printed with peas and carrots.\u00c2\u00a0 But I resisted and instead picked up this Ginger Snaps<\/em> pattern.<\/p>\n

I have a few other similar patterns, but Nancy Coburn’s directions for her Ginger Snaps<\/a> designs are always superb.\u00c2\u00a0 So that was my justification for buying it.\u00c2\u00a0 I couldn’t leave empty handed!<\/p>\n
