Granddad and I have read stories, said prayers and tucked in one, two, or all three grandchildren every\u00c2\u00a0 night before and after some exciting events (Halloween, county fair, Gator football game and more).<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why there has been no time for blogging.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, I&#8217;d rather spend time with these precious children than blog, but I hope to be more regular from now on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-beds1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29576\" alt=\"2 beds\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-beds1.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-beds1.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-beds1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll prattle on and on about these fun happenings in the next post.\u00c2\u00a0 For now,\u00c2\u00a0 in order to get back on track to the topic of sewing, I will show pictures of the big kids&#8217; bedroom redecorating, though it is not yet done.\u00c2\u00a0 Because the room is shared by both Robert and Laurel, it couldn&#8217;t be too frilly or too masculine.\u00c2\u00a0 Another consideration is that we often use it for guests.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Alastair, 3 1\/2, has for some time now slept in a big bed at home.\u00c2\u00a0 But he has never wanted to sleep anywhere other than the crib here at <a title=\"Nana\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Nursery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/18\/nanas-nursery\/\">Nana&#8217;s house<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 So he is still in the nursery, which adjoins the big kids&#8217; room.\u00c2\u00a0 I hope when his baby sister arrives, he will willingly abandon the crib and bunk in this room near his cousins on a trundle.<\/p>\n<p>When this redecorating project was started, I really wanted to keep the rug and use these quilts.\u00c2\u00a0 Lightweight denim seemed like a good choice for the bed skirts and valances.\u00c2\u00a0 I used the strip\/safety pin technique discussed in the earlier post, <a title=\"Ho-hum Sewing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/09\/ho-hum-sewing\/\">Ho-hum Sewing.<\/a> An eyelet ruffle peeks out from below the valances for a touch of femininity.<\/p>\n<p>The window shades were in good shape except for the scraggly fringe (see sepia photo below).\u00c2\u00a0 That fringe was removed and replaced with domestic eyelet galloon which was stitched in place.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-lamps2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29580\" alt=\"2 lamps\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-lamps2.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-lamps2.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/2-lamps2-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The neutral fabric lampshades were replaced with quick, elasticized tubes of red gingham. \u00c2\u00a0 Big 12-15&#8243; craft shop letters (A R and L) were painted red and will hang on the wall with some art work when I get around to that.<\/p>\n<p>Except for the letters and the denim, everything else was plundered from my stash.\u00c2\u00a0 A few more yards of this and that are gone!\u00c2\u00a0 Hurrah!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/sepia-BnMsm1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29578\" alt=\"sepia BnMsm\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/sepia-BnMsm1.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/sepia-BnMsm1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/sepia-BnMsm1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The room is neither exciting nor to-die-for, but it is an improvement over the plain Jane fix the room received after a hurricane did some serious damage and took the roof off 8 years ago, just after Laurel&#8217;s birth.\u00c2\u00a0 just 6 weeks before Rebecca&#8217;a at-home wedding, the roof and walls were replaced and the wood floors were refinished.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/dress-door.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24794\" title=\"dress door\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/dress-door.jpg\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/dress-door.jpg 427w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/dress-door-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But her childhood bedroom has been almost barren since then.
