monogram (or technically a royal cypher&#8211;see<a title=\"Bonnet, Monograms and Chicken Soup\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/28\/bonnet-monograms-and-chicken-soup\/\"> previous post<\/a>) design is from Nivia&#8217;s Monogram 2 set.\u00a0 I love every one of the collections she has done, most of which incorporate fil\u00a0 tire&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/embcloseFI2cropcontrast.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31478\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/embcloseFI2cropcontrast.jpg\" alt=\"embcloseFI2cropcontrast\" width=\"640\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/embcloseFI2cropcontrast.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/embcloseFI2cropcontrast-300x87.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a> \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 color has been edited for better visibility of details<\/p>\n<p>The first Nivia monogram collection has larger letters, but the second, which I used, has much smaller letters.<\/p>\n<p>WOW!\u00a0 I am shocked!\u00a0 I just went to Martha Pullen&#8217;s site for a link so you could view the collection.\u00a0 They are not there!\u00a0 Martha no longer carries these spectacular designs.\u00a0 However, there are at least two other Nivia collections advertised at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allbrands.com\/products\/14778-nivias-designs-for-machine-embroidery-hemstitch-mo\">AllBrands<\/a>.\u00a0 There may be other sources.<\/p>\n<p>So many of my favorite designs are no longer readily available&#8212;the <a title=\"For a Musical Biker Chef\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/15\/for-a-musical-biker-chef\/\">French Chefs<\/a> from Amazing Designs,<a title=\"Shadow Work Christmas Collar\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/28\/me-shadow-embroidered-christmas-collar\/\"> shadow work by Suzanne Hinshaw<\/a> , and now <a title=\"Nivia diaper set\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/10\/nivia-diaper-set\/\">Nivia&#8217;s sets.<\/a>\u00a0 What a shame.\u00a0 I&#8217;m glad these treasures were added to my embroidery collection early on and hope any of you who look for them can find a set.<\/p>\n<p>But back to the blanket. Worked a few inches from the pinstitched lace edging is a zig zag feather stitch frame.\u00a0\u00a0 I am really proud to have designed this stitch in<em>\u00a0 My Custom Stitch<\/em>\u00a0 feature on many Brother machines.\u00a0 In my opinion, this attribute is seriously underutilized.<\/p>\n<p>There is a great, in-depth book on the subject which I found to be very helpful. <em>Brother&#8217;s My Custom Stitch<\/em> by Barbara Skimin was a valuable reference as I got\u00a0 the knack of this.\u00a0 For some time, the book was almost impossible to find, but now I see it is available <a href=\"http:\/\/sewingsupplywarehouse.com\/brmycustbo.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The description reads, &#8220;<span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">Barbara Skimin has written an easy and fun guide that can be used with any Brother machine with the My Custom Stitch feature. This book will teach you everything you need to know about My Custom Stitch. It includes in-depth instructions for creating your own custom stitches, complete instructions for four projects and detailed information on Brother&#8217;s Pacesetter models.
