Baby Girl arrived today, Monday, via C-section weighing in at 8 lbs. 7 oz., measuring 21 &#8220;.\u00c2\u00a0 Mother and Vivian Rose are both happy and well.\u00c2\u00a0 We are thrilled!<\/p>\n<p>From the moment she was placed in her mother&#8217;s arms, she latched on and nursed for almost 2 hours.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, it was not non-stop, but she never let her little mouth stray from the source of her contentment.\u00c2\u00a0 She screamed when she was moved to the opposite side and then went silent when she was in the vicinity of lunch.\u00c2\u00a0 So she was 2 hours old before we got a good look at her and took this photo.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca was very pleased with this pink Swiss flannel bishop daygown.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-sll.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25432\" title=\"pink flannel sll\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-sll.jpg\" width=\"958\" height=\"1158\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-sll.jpg 958w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-sll-248x300.jpg 248w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-sll-847x1024.jpg 847w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 958px) 100vw, 958px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It matches the <a title=\"Bonnet, Monograms and Chicken Soup\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/28\/bonnet-monograms-and-chicken-soup\/\">bonnet<\/a> made earlier.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/side-crop-ed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25263\" title=\"side crop ed\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/side-crop-ed.jpg\" width=\"834\" height=\"892\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/side-crop-ed.jpg 834w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/side-crop-ed-280x300.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 834px) 100vw, 834px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I really appreciate all your feedback on my detailed reports of mistakes.\u00c2\u00a0 Since all comments were in favor of an open and honest\u00c2\u00a0 description of the process, I&#8217;ll spell out all the stupid mistakes on this gown and my attempts at fixing them.<\/p>\n<p>First, I really like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sewbeautifulmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/110-article.pdf\">Debbie Glenn&#8217;s painless placket<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 I also like to cut my bishops with no center back seam, placing both front and back pieces on a fold.\u00c2\u00a0 The painless placket requires that you add 2 1\/2&#8243; to the back.\u00c2\u00a0 So I pinned the back pattern piece 1 1\/4&#8243; from the fold.\u00c2\u00a0 Good to go, right?<\/p>\n<p>Mistake #1\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Then, as I was dreaming about what Baby Vivian might be like, I began cutting right up from the hem on the pattern piece!\u00c2\u00a0 At 1&#8243; up, I caught the mistake, but that eliminated the possibility of a 1&#8243; hem.<\/p>\n<p>Fix #1\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The fix was to use scallops at the hemline, placing the 1&#8243; cut at the peak between two scallops.\u00c2\u00a0 One row of scallops looked skimpy, two is a visually unpleasing even number, and three would be better. Okay.<\/p>\n<p>Mistake #2\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I had already chosen a small bolt of lace from my mother&#8217;s sewing stash.\u00c2\u00a0 There was enough lace only for sleeves,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-sleeve.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25435\" title=\"pink flannel sleeve\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-sleeve.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"821\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-sleeve.jpg 960w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-sleeve-300x256.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>and two rows of scallops. hmmmmm&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-hemline.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25434\" title=\"pink flannel hemline\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-hemline.jpg\" width=\"1266\" height=\"809\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-hemline.jpg 1266w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-hemline-300x191.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/pink-flannel-hemline-1024x654.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1266px) 100vw, 1266px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fix #2\u00c2\u00a0 So for the middle row, my favorite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/category\/store\/heirloom-lace-edgings\/\">chameleon lace<\/a> was used, with pink floss woven through the holes.\u00c2\u00a0 The bottom row of lace looks darker against the aged white table linen.\u00c2\u00a0 It is the same as the first row.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15391\" style=\"width: 415px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/E-1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15391\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15391\" title=\"E-1\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/E-1.jpg\" width=\"405\" height=\"116\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/E-1.jpg 405w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/E-1-300x85.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 405px) 100vw, 405px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15391\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">E-1&#8230;$1 per yard&#8230;1\/4&#8243; wide&#8230;white<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A similar lace was used on the bonnet and neckline.<\/p>\n<p>Mistake #3\u00c2\u00a0 My mother&#8217;s lace looked white in my brightly lighted sewing room.\u00c2\u00a0 But it was not quite white in daylight.\u00c2\u00a0 So now I had white and ivory lace used together on the same garment.<\/p>\n<p>Fix #3&#8230;.and this is not a perfect fix&#8230;&#8230;.I smocked with pink, white and ecru.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/yoke-br.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25452\" title=\"yoke br\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/yoke-br.jpg\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/yoke-br.jpg 1280w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/yoke-br-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/yoke-br-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the fil tire&#8217; embroidery at the bottom of the skirt, I decided to minimize the embroidery at the peaks of the pinstitched scallops.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/hand-emb.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25450\" title=\"hand emb\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/hand-emb.jpg\" width=\"462\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/hand-emb.jpg 462w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/hand-emb-289x300.jpg 289w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 462px) 100vw, 462px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The hand embroidered French knots\u00c2\u00a0 have simple lazy daisy leaves.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, it seems like it would be easier to just scrap the project and start anew.\u00c2\u00a0 But I hadn&#8217;t enough pink Swiss flannel.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a matching blanket.\u00c2\u00a0 This was recycled from a class project.\u00c2\u00a0 Just the simple Nivia monogram was added.\u00c2\u00a0 The fil tire&#8217;
