In that post, Lisa included\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/oldfashionedbaby.blogspot.com\/2012\/09\/it-makes-me-feel-so.html\">this link<\/a> to Jeannie B.&#8217;s blog which showed a precious baby wearing the same gown in white.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE:\u00c2\u00a0 Another beautiful interpretation of this pattern was made by Karen and shown on her <a href=\"http:\/\/butterfliesandfaeries.blogspot.com\/2012\/12\/holiday-smocking-for-baby.html\">Butterflies and Fairies blog<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Check it out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/OFB-yoke1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25525\" title=\"OFB yoke\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/OFB-yoke1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/OFB-yoke1.jpg 1280w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/OFB-yoke1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/OFB-yoke1-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Only the front and sleeves are smocked, making it a very quick project.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sleeve.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25522\" title=\"sleeve\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sleeve.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"726\" height=\"880\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sleeve.jpg 726w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sleeve-247x300.jpg 247w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 726px) 100vw, 726px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Both finished dresses by Jeannie and Lisa are very classic. \u00c2\u00a0 In an effort to include a contemporary garment in the layette for Vivian Rose, I used a lime and pink polka dot flannel, adding rick rack and bright buttons for embellishment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/back-twin-needlecrop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25523\" title=\"back twin needlecrop\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/back-twin-needlecrop.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"1280\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/back-twin-needlecrop.jpg 960w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/back-twin-needlecrop-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/back-twin-needlecrop-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The back facings were machine stitched in a serpentine scallop pattern with a 2.5\/80 twin needle threaded in green and pink.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It was many times faster than hand whipping it would have been.\u00c2\u00a0 As usual, I was in a hurry.<\/p>\n<p>The back button colors alternate between pink and lime green because I didn&#8217;t have 5\u00c2\u00a0 of either color on hand.\u00c2\u00a0 Recalling my effort at a contemporary look, I okayed this make-do decision.<\/p>\n<p>Normally, I would have hand stitched the hem.\u00c2\u00a0 But for this gown, the hem was machine stitched then covered with pink rick rack.\u00c2\u00a0 In my hurry up mode, this time saver seemed like a good idea.<\/p>\n<p>And by\u00c2\u00a0 the way, I <em>really<\/em> dislike\u00c2\u00a0 rick rack that has curled after washing.\u00c2\u00a0 So I always attach it free motion, in a zig zag pattern stitching from upper to lower point on the rick rack.\u00c2\u00a0 It remains flat for all eternity, regardless of how many times it is laundered.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_25524\" style=\"width: 1246px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/rick-rack-crop.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25524\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25524\" title=\"rick rack crop\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/rick-rack-crop.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1236\" height=\"588\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/rick-rack-crop.jpg 1236w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/rick-rack-crop-300x142.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/rick-rack-crop-1024x487.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1236px) 100vw, 1236px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-25524\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rick rack is secured using free motion technique stitching from point to point.
