It is to show newer bloggers that they are appreciated, and to help spread the word about new blogs. It was created to promote appreciation and recognition among the blog world. Liebster translates to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153dearest\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (or favorite\/best) in German. It is also known as the Love Blog Award.&#8221; It&#8217;s been fun to get to know some bloggers better and a great way to pass on the love.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I loved reading Lisa&#8217;s post about the award and all of her personal information.\u00c2\u00a0 Even though we&#8217;ve never met, I like to think we are friends.\u00c2\u00a0 But I know her better now.\u00c2\u00a0 I hope Janice Ferguson Sews readers think of me as your friend, so here&#8217;s &#8220;getting to know you.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This Leibster entry info might be far more than you wanted to know about me.\u00c2\u00a0 So consider yourself forewarned. It&#8217;s your choice&#8211;read on or move on.\u00c2\u00a0 If you choose to read on, I suggest you scan through this lengthy post to find a topic that interests you.\u00c2\u00a0 There is a lot of trivia here.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the Leibster rules:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You must post 11 random things about yourself<\/li>\n<li>Answer the 11 questions given by the nominator.<\/li>\n<li>Create 11 new questions for those you nominate.<\/li>\n<li>Choose 11 new blogs and link to them in your post.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>11 random things about Janice Ferguson<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1.\u00c2\u00a0 OWNER OF HORSE IN THE HOUSE:\u00c2\u00a0 I once had my horse in the house for several hours while I was out shopping.\u00c2\u00a0 You\u00c2\u00a0 think you&#8217;ve seen trouble?\u00c2\u00a0 I doubt you&#8217;ve seen\u00c2\u00a0 anything like the mess &#8220;Pony&#8221; made.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In a nutshell, we had a wonderful horse who roamed freely about our 3 acre fenced yard.\u00c2\u00a0 She pulled a pony cart and was reliable even in downtown traffic on her way to McDonalds where she loved being treated to a root beer.\u00c2\u00a0 That horse loved her cart, which seated three riders.\u00c2\u00a0 But she was a curious creature, extremely adept with her prehensile lips.<\/p>\n<p>Our<a title=\"My Back Porch\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/02\/my-back-porch\/\"> back porch<\/a> door handle was an old fashioned (original to our 1926 house) knob that was really more like a lever.\u00c2\u00a0 So on this particular day, no sooner had I pulled out of the driveway to get groceries than she opened the back door, strolled in and made herself at home. Unfortunately, she was unable to let herself out after causing<em> immeasurable<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 mischief.<\/p>\n<p>Because there were some sugar cubes in the silver sugar bowl, Bob&#8217;s grandmother&#8217;s &#8220;F&#8221; monogrammed tea set was dented when she knocked it onto the hard quarry tile dining room floor.\u00c2\u00a0 Then Pony checked out the kitchen, ripping open a 5 lb. bag of flour on the counter (I was planning to make bread).\u00c2\u00a0 She moved on\u00c2\u00a0 to my Fannie Farmer cookbook, ripping the binding off.\u00c2\u00a0 (I think she had heard that they make glue from horse hooves.)<\/p>\n<p>Out of sheer boredom, she gnawed on a kitchen cabinet, leaving teeth marks that would enable any forensic dentist to identify her.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, after eating all those goodies and the wood roughage, she left a few piles of manure here and there.<\/p>\n<p>When I returned home, she was &#8220;hiding&#8221; with her nose in the corner of the porch, behind a hammock that was strung\u00c2\u00a0 there.\u00c2\u00a0 With her backside presented,\u00c2\u00a0 she peeked through the hammock at me when I shrieked at her. This story is even longer, but I will stop here.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2.\u00c2\u00a0 WATER SKI INSTRUCTOR:\u00c2\u00a0 My college summers were spent teaching water skiing at a summer camp in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The summer before my senior year, I met my husband there.\u00c2\u00a0 He was the sailing instructor and claimed that he knew how to drive a boat.\u00c2\u00a0 Turns out he just wanted to get to know me and was no boat driver at all.\u00c2\u00a0 I quickly discovered this when he nearly crashed the ski boat into the raft in the middle of the lake.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;I thought it would be pretty much like driving a car,&#8221; he said.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s not.\u00c2\u00a0 No brakes. So on our lunch hour, I taught him how to handle the boat.\u00c2\u00a0 And he taught me a few things&#8212;about sailing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3.\u00c2\u00a0 NIGHT OWL: My normal bedtime is 2 a.m., wake up at 10 a.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Life around here is pretty hectic but it is relatively quiet in those wee hours.\u00c2\u00a0 I get more done in the sewing room those 4 hours than I could possibly accomplish during the day with all the interruptions.\u00c2\u00a0 I awaken at 10 a.m. but my brain is not fully engaged until about 11.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4.\u00c2\u00a0 MOTHER EARTHER:\u00c2\u00a0 For several years, we were in a homesteading mode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I milked the goats twice a day, gathered eggs from the chickens, ducks and geese, raised a few turkeys each year for meat, tended a large garden, canned produce, made yogurt and baked much of our bread.\u00c2\u00a0 But like few other Mother Earthers, my daughter wore smocked clothing almost every day until she was 8.\u00c2\u00a0 After that, only occasionally, but she wore an heirloom sewn dress to church every Sunday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_25668\" style=\"width: 1510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/photo-2.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25668\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25668\" title=\"photo-2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/photo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/photo-2.jpg 1500w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/photo-2-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/photo-2-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-25668\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">goat barn and 50 x 50&#8242; garden<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>5.\u00c2\u00a0 WRITER:\u00c2\u00a0 For several years when my children were little, I wrote feature articles and the church news for our small town newspaper.\u00c2\u00a0 After that,\u00c2\u00a0 I moved on to write for <em>Sew Beautiful, Creative Needle, Quilt World, Vogue Patterns<\/em> and other sewing publications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>6.\u00c2\u00a0 GRADUATE:\u00c2\u00a0 At Northern Illinois University, I earned a B.A. in English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One week after graduation, I married the love of my life (the sailing-instructor-turned-boat-driver guy), moved to Florida with him to start our new life, earned a master&#8217;s degree in special education at Stetson University and taught mentally handicapped children for the 6 years before our son was born.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7.\u00c2\u00a0 NEEDLEWORK\u00c2\u00a0 TEACHER&#8211;smocking, heirloom sewing, quilting and most recently machine embroidery&#8211;became my part time job and joyful, occasional break from the housewife\/mother routine at home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ve taught at Martha Pullen&#8217;s School of Art Fashion about 20 times, and for shops and guilds in locations from Cape Cod to San Francisco, Australia and <a title=\"Teaching in Puerto Rico\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/20\/teaching-in-puerto-rico\/\">Puerto Rico.<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8.\u00c2\u00a0 SANDWICH MAKER:\u00c2\u00a0 I once made my own Subway sandwich at a truck stop on my way home from teaching at Martha&#8217;s school in Huntsville. Scroll down a ways.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>9.\u00c2\u00a0 GATOR FAN:\u00c2\u00a0 Everyone in our family is a huge fan of the University of Florida Gators. Why did you start your blog?<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Short answer:\u00c2\u00a0 to\u00c2\u00a0 reduce my stash<\/li>\n<li>Long answer and explanation:\u00c2\u00a0 My name is Janice and I AM a textile hoarder.\u00c2\u00a0 It all started when I began teaching sewing~English smocking, heirloom sewing, machine embroidery and quilting.\u00c2\u00a0 Even though sometimes\u00c2\u00a0 there may have been only 18-20 students, most of my classes had a cap of 25.\u00c2\u00a0 So I had\u00c2\u00a0 to be prepared for 25 with extra goods for the inevitable project errors.\u00c2\u00a0 Then there were those wonderful finds or sales that were just too good to pass up&#8211;hey!\u00c2\u00a0 I could do a class with that!!!!\u00c2\u00a0 But sometimes, the class was never developed, and that left me with the goods for 25 students.\u00c2\u00a0 So I needed (and still do need) to reduce my stash.\u00c2\u00a0 I\u00c2\u00a0 planned to blog a little and sell a lot.\u00c2\u00a0 Turns out I had that backwards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>2. What year would you like to visit for a week as a time-traveler?<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d like to go back to a week in the summer of 1984 when my son Ryan was 9 and Rebecca was 5.\u00c2\u00a0 I loved <del>all<\/del> most of the years raising our children but I remember that year with special fondness.<\/p>\n<p>My husband had been sent to Phoenix on temporary duty for 6 months.\u00c2\u00a0 The children and I joined him for the summer and lived at a golf resort in Arizona.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a blissfully carefree time with a housekeeper coming in daily and with no other responsibilities.\u00c2\u00a0 Every weekend was a new adventure as we traveled to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Flagstaff and other spots in Arizona.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a very happy time.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_25718\" style=\"width: 1510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RimKids.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25718\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25718\" title=\"RimKids\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RimKids.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RimKids.jpg 1500w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RimKids-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RimKids-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-25718\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ryan and Rebecca at the rim of the Grand Canyon<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>5. If you didn&#8217;t have the job you have, what would you want to do instead?<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have a real &#8220;job&#8221; other than being on call for my children and grandchildren. I would always choose to do what I do, enjoy my family, sew, garden, blog, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 I am blessed with a wonderful life.<\/p>\n<p><em>6. What is your favorite food?<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I love chocolate and seafood, but not together.<br \/>\n<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>7. What is your favorite novel or series?<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s hard to choose between Diana Gabaldon&#8217;s Outlander series and Philippa Gregory&#8217;s Tudor series.\u00c2\u00a0 I love the history in both.\u00c2\u00a0 But then again, Sandra Dallas&#8217; books are so homey, such an easy read, often with quilting built into the story.<br \/>\n<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>9. What famous person do you most admire?\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em><a title=\"Miss Alice\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Tatted Yoke~Another Re-run\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/02\/miss-alices-tatted-yokeanother-re-run\/\">Miss Alice Van Cleef<\/a>, (scroll down to the bottom of the post, under <em>History<\/em>) who is only famous locally.\u00c2\u00a0 Her entire life was devoted to helping her neighbors, supporting her church, embracing and promoting her community, Glenwood, FL.\u00c2\u00a0 She is a local legend and source of continuing inspiration.<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>10. What is your favorite restaurant?\u00c2\u00a0<\/em> I like any place my husband will\u00c2\u00a0 take us for dinner so I don&#8217;t have to cook.<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>11.
