Judy has always made holiday outfits in groups of 4, one for each girl and one for\u00c2\u00a0 each girl&#8217;s doll.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 But this year, she recognized and acknowledged her girls&#8217; growing sense of individual style.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, at least their different color choices.<\/p>\n<p>Here is Judy&#8217;s story about the Easter outfits.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I had visions of smocked silk dupioni dancing in my head for Easter this year.\u00c2\u00a0 Pink for Courtney and lilac for Kennedy.\u00c2\u00a0 Their mothers wanted something more casual.\u00c2\u00a0 So I decided on a smocked sun dresses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Back_of_Dress1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33608\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Back_of_Dress1.jpg\" alt=\"Back_of_Dress\" width=\"361\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Back_of_Dress1.jpg 361w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Back_of_Dress1-169x300.jpg 169w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 361px) 100vw, 361px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The pattern is<em> KELLY<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 from Trisha&#8217;s Treasures by Trisha Smith.<br \/>\nwww.TrishasDesigns.com.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The pattern is sized 1-6 and 7-12.\u00c2\u00a0 This pattern has 2 options for the ties.\u00c2\u00a0 I chose to criss-cross the ties over the back and then run them through guides stitched at the waist and tied in a bow.\u00c2\u00a0 This keeps the back of the sundress from dipping at the center from the weight of the skirt.<\/p>\n<p>I dug around and found smocked inserts that I had done for the girls about 4 years ago and never used.\u00c2\u00a0 The smocking design is from Karen Faylor&#8217;s <em>Venice<\/em>; Sew Beautiful Issue 113&#8211;2007.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Kennedy_quiet_moment-21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33609\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Kennedy_quiet_moment-21.jpg\" alt=\"Kennedy_quiet_moment-2\" width=\"290\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Kennedy_quiet_moment-21.jpg 290w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Kennedy_quiet_moment-21-136x300.jpg 136w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With nothing in my stash that I\u00c2\u00a0 wanted to use and no time to order fabric, I\u00c2\u00a0 headed to JoAnn&#8217;s.\u00c2\u00a0 I was pleasantly surprised to find the perfect multi-color fabric.<\/p>\n<p>The fabric is <em>Lisette<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 by Liesl &amp; Co.\u00c2\u00a0 It is cotton sateen and the hand is luscious!\u00c2\u00a0 I had not seen this line at JoAnn&#8217;s before, but apparently they had it last year also.\u00c2\u00a0 I bought all they had and was a yard short of what the pattern called for to make 2 dresses.<\/p>\n<p>After measuring and folding and re-measuring,\u00c2\u00a0 I was able to cut both dresses with nothing left over after cutting the bias pieces.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern directions are well written and easy to follow with pictures and side tips included.\u00c2\u00a0 I did adapt\u00c2\u00a0the waist line to incorporate bias piping instead of a wide band.
