Surely, I thought, it would fit a 4 month old baby for a few months.\u00c2\u00a0 But not this queen-sized baby girl.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/ofbsummerclothes1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-31675\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/ofbsummerclothes1.jpg\" alt=\"ofbsummerclothes\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/ofbsummerclothes1.jpg 534w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/ofbsummerclothes1-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 534px) 100vw, 534px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Chubbalicious Vivian Rose is now wearing 12 month clothes!\u00c2\u00a0 I expected that she would wear this at least through 4th of July, which is why I invested the time to stitch a little hand embroidery.\u00c2\u00a0 OFB patterns just seem to scream for a simple needle and embroidery floss, so this time I listened.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/neck-emb21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-31677\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/neck-emb21.jpg\" alt=\"neck emb2\" width=\"800\" height=\"553\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/neck-emb21.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/neck-emb21-300x207.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The hand embroidery was such a pleasure to do.\u00c2\u00a0 I wish I weren&#8217;t in such a hurry all the time and could do this more often and gain some skill.\u00c2\u00a0 Fortunately, the designs included with the pattern were simple and the stitches basic.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/hem-emb1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-31678\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/hem-emb1.jpg\" alt=\"hem emb\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/hem-emb1.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/hem-emb1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I love this pattern.\u00c2\u00a0 It includes so many styles, each of which is a picture of pristine, classic beauty.\u00c2\u00a0 The\u00c2\u00a0 embroidery designs, which are included, are simple and sweet.\u00c2\u00a0 Especially nice is the simplicity of each style, allowing you to make whatever embellishments you like.<\/p>\n<p>Using this pattern, I stitched a\u00c2\u00a0 <a title=\"Liberty Bubble and PR Diaper Shirt\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/13\/liberty-bubble-and-pr-diaper-shirt\/\">bubble<\/a> for Vivian Rose in the smaller size, adding ruffles to the seat (her mother&#8217;s favorite girlie feature). \u00c2\u00a0 She looked precious in it until she outgrew it by the time she was 10 weeks old.\u00c2\u00a0 New, longer elastic and a 3&#8243; crotch extension gave it a few more months of wear.<\/p>\n<p>When Rebecca gave me an update on Baby&#8217;s size, I was in the middle of constructing this &#8220;apron.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 Fortunately, the pattern pieces were traced onto the fabric and not yet cut out as I stitched the embroidery.\u00c2\u00a0 It was not too late to make major alterations to the pattern.<\/p>\n<p>Moving the cutting line over 3\/8&#8243; from the pattern line added 1 1\/2&#8243; to the chest and widened the armscye.\u00c2\u00a0 The 1\/4&#8243; neckline seam allowance was increased to 3\/8&#8243; giving a little more room for a chubby neck.\u00c2\u00a0 Then rather than folding the button extension in the back as directed, I left it flat and faced it.\u00c2\u00a0 This added a little more width to the back and the neckline.<\/p>\n<p>It seems to me that this apron needs 3 small black buttons.\u00c2\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t believe it when I dug through my gajillion buttons and found nothing suitable.\u00c2\u00a0 Tomorrow, I&#8217;m off to JoAnn&#8217;s and then I can finish this.<\/p>\n<p>The ruffle bottom bloomers always take longer than I expect.\u00c2\u00a0 Finally, I have finally found a satisfactory way to attach them.\u00c2\u00a0 First, I finished both sides of a fabric strip with a tiny serger roll and whip.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Then it was gathered 3\/8&#8221; from one finished edge and stitched onto a marker line on the bloomers.<\/p>\n<p>Working with gathers is about my least favorite thing to do.\u00c2\u00a0 But with the help of my Brother Quattro&#8217;s knee lift and my trusty needle trolley, it is much less annoying.\u00c2\u00a0 If you have a knee lift and don&#8217;t use it, you are really missing out on a great feature.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/needle-trolley.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26669\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/needle-trolley.jpg\" alt=\"needle trolley\" width=\"245\" height=\"201\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One interesting feature of this outfit is the lace.\u00c2\u00a0 In my stash I had a small bolt of 100% nylon French lace, soft as cotton and in a classic pattern.\u00c2\u00a0 It won&#8217;t wrinkle up and will look as nice after being washed as it does now.\u00c2\u00a0 Like most busy young mothers, Rebecca has little time for ironing baby clothes.\u00c2\u00a0 But in my humble opinion, freshly laundered crumpled heirloom lace looks so sad.\u00c2\u00a0 So this lace makes both of us happy. I wish I had more.<\/p>\n<p>So is this is modern enough to qualify as contemporary?\u00c2\u00a0 I doubt it.\u00c2\u00a0 But Rebecca\u00c2\u00a0 selected the fabrics and requested ruffled bloomers, so I expect it will please her.\u00c2\u00a0 Both she and her husband are always so appreciative of anything I make for the children.
