This is a beautiful collection, with a pretty companion design for this one.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Luxurious bed linens have always been a priority for my girl.\u00c2\u00a0 As a freshman moving into a dorm at University of Florida, she asked me to custom make pima cotton sheets for the non-standard dorm bed, and, of course, matching pillowcases. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 She confided that she was a bit like storybook character in the <em>Princess and the Pea<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 How could she get a decent night&#8217;s sleep on anything but pima cotton?\u00c2\u00a0 Oh dear, I thought.\u00c2\u00a0 Have I raised a &#8220;pima&#8221; donna? \u00c2\u00a0 But of course, two sets of fitted pima sheets were packed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_28179\" style=\"width: 522px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/freshman.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28179\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-28179\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/freshman.jpg\" alt=\"Sending off our French foregin exchange student days before Rebecca (in red) headed to University of Florida.\" width=\"512\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/freshman.jpg 512w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/freshman-192x300.jpg 192w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-28179\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">At\u00c2\u00a0 the airport, sending Claire, our French foreign exchange student,\u00c2\u00a0 home to France.\u00c2\u00a0 This was just a few days before Rebecca (in red) headed to University of Florida&#8212;along with her mama-made pima cotton bedding.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From the dormitory to the sorority house to her first college-girl apartment to her first little bachelorette house and now in her lovely marital home, she has always had pima cotton bedding.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not very pleased with this pair of pillowcases, but time ran out so\u00c2\u00a0 this is what she got.\u00c2\u00a0 With two little ones, she doesn&#8217;t spend her time ironing.\u00c2\u00a0 So I used a polycotton gingham for the <a title=\"Turn Tube Pillowcase Hem\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/25\/turn-tube-pillowcase-hem\/\">turn tube hem<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 While pressing the pima, the iron rested a little too long on the gingham and shriveled a section, of course, in the center front!\u00c2\u00a0 FYI, that&#8217;s the top case with the covered hem.<\/p>\n<p>The turn tube hem was done a little differently.\u00c2\u00a0 In an effort to segue from the elegant monogram and embroidery on the pima to the folksy gingham hem, I added a row of commercial entredeux between the two.\u00c2\u00a0 Then perle cotton was woven through the holes.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m not certain it was a successful transition, but it does offer a visual break.<\/p>\n<p>Like mothers everywhere, I am astounded at how the time has passed. \u00c2\u00a0 The years since Rebecca&#8217;s birth have rushed by like train cars rolling down the tracks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32925\" style=\"width: 709px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/becca-newborn1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32925\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-32925 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/becca-newborn1.jpg\" alt=\"becca newborn\" width=\"699\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/becca-newborn1.jpg 699w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/becca-newborn1-262x300.jpg 262w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 699px) 100vw, 699px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-32925\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rebecca, one day old, 9 lbs. 1 oz. I thought she was the most beautiful baby in the world. Isn&#8217;t it wonderful how God makes every mother think that?<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She came home in a crocheted granny square blanket and a knitted gown that I had made during the pregnancy, hoping and praying for a healthy little girl with every stitch.\u00c2\u00a0 I got the my girl but not a little one.\u00c2\u00a0 My bouncing baby girl arrived weighing 9 lbs. 1 oz.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32926\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/SewingGirlsCR1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32926\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32926\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/SewingGirlsCR1.jpg\" alt=\"Three generations smocking the evening away during our stay at historic El Tovar at the Grand Canyon. Her pink broadcloth romper smocked with ice cream cones did come clean. So did she.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At 10 she won Best in Show for sewing, first at the Volusia County Fair and then at the Central Florida Fair for this dress.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 That certainly made her sewing mother proud.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/dressx1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32930\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/dressx1.jpg\" alt=\"dressx\" width=\"392\" height=\"659\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/dressx1.jpg 392w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/dressx1-178x300.jpg 178w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 392px) 100vw, 392px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She also made quilts, knitted, made porcelain dolls with her grandmother and did some heirloom sewing. An honor student, she was treasurer of her junior class and played on the volleyball team.<\/p>\n<p>The summer\u00c2\u00a0 Rebecca was 15, she held week-long quilt camps (4 of them) for\u00c2\u00a0 girls&#8211;her brochure said students had to be younger than the teacher.\u00c2\u00a0 Twenty-four girls from 7-14 made their first quilts under Rebecca&#8217;s tutelage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32931\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/becca-quilt-camp1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32931\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-32931 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/becca-quilt-camp1.jpg\" alt=\"becca quilt camp\" width=\"800\" height=\"559\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/becca-quilt-camp1.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/becca-quilt-camp1-300x209.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-32931\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rebecca, on the right, supervises the tying of one girl&#8217;s quilt while another group was at work in the dining room.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Then it was off to U of F.\u00c2\u00a0 She she spent one summer in Paris studying at The Sorbonne. After earning a degree in computer science, she went on to graduate school at Florida.<\/p>\n<p>All these events, it seems, occurred last week.\u00c2\u00a0 Now she is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0dm6eh-3GnE\">Sadie, Sadie, Married Lady<\/a> (remember Barbra Streisand in<em> Funny Girl<\/em>?).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/0981.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32932\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/0981.jpg\" alt=\"098\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/0981.jpg 534w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/0981-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 534px) 100vw, 534px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Just like her mother, my daughter got the healthy children she hoped and prayed for.\u00c2\u00a0 Rebecca is an amazing, devoted mother to Alastair and Vivian Rose,\u00c2\u00a0 a wonderful wife for Harvey and the best daughter her parents could ever ask for.\u00c2\u00a0 Happy birthday,\u00c2\u00a0 Baby Girl.\u00c2\u00a0 May all your sweet dreams come true.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While spending the past weekend with our daughter and her family, we celebrated her birthday and her husband&#8217;s.\u00c2\u00a0 After running across this post, I decided to put it up again.\u00c2\u00a0 Daughters are wonderful!!
