Where\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Waldo?\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Where has www.janicefergusonsews.com\u00c2\u00a0 been?\u00c2\u00a0 According to m<\/span>y savvy son-in-law, the problem was with my server. Humphhhh, no<\/span> tip for this server. But this blog is back and so am I and I have so much to share with you. While the blog was down, I have been doing a lot of sewing.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Many of the Christmas projects are finally finished and ready for the big day.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n Do you all make a lot of stockings?\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Have you made one for each member of the family?\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Do you enjoy stitching these?\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It seems everywhere I look in the sewing world, stockings are being cranked out in great numbers.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It seems some families like to purchase or make new stockings each year.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a one-time shot for the Fergusons.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>In this family, you get one stocking and you darn well better like it.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Or you can get your own from Cracker Barrel or WalMart. No do-overs from me. Because I make just one, well except for grandson\u00c2\u00a0 Alastair’s temporary stocking.\u00c2\u00a0<\/a> But that was a special situation.<\/span><\/p>\n It was followed the next year by what my Rebecca calls Alastair’s heirloom stocking.<\/a>“\u00c2\u00a0 The stocking body is ultrasuede.<\/p>\n Then at last, I finished an ultrasuede stocking for Alastair’s father<\/a>, Harvey. Having finished granddaughter Vivian Roses\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s stocking<\/a>, I made two simple stockings for a charity project in which my daughter Rebecca is involved.\u00c2\u00a0 The stockings made for Gina and Gianna had to be delivered by Thanksgiving, so it’s likely\u00c2\u00a0 that they are hanging now.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I wonder if will these for future Christmases or replaced with newer ones that fit the fashion of the next season.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Whatever. These stockings sufficed for Rebecca’s commitment. Gina and Gianna’s names were stitched with Grand Slam\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Candy Cane Alphabet<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Then the cuff edge was serged in green.\u00c2\u00a0 Gianna’s stocking cuff features one of my favorite designs which is from the very useful set, Baby Christmas Borders<\/em> by Bit of Stitch.<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Aside from the pretty borders, small elements can be extracted and used in combination with others.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>On Vivian Rose\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s stocking, the candy cane from this design was applied to the door frame of the gingerbread house.<\/p>\n Next I repaired my son\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s stocking, knitted for him in 1979. The hanging loop was frayed, so at least it was a quick fix. \u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s pretty touching to know that he still hangs his childhood stocking along with those newly made for his wife and children.<\/p>\n \n my son’s stocking, made when he was 4<\/p><\/div>\n Next to his stocking are the rest of his family\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s goodie holders, made a few years ago.<\/p>\n Shelly, our precious daughter-in-law,\u00c2\u00a0 is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator whose laundry room almost always doubles as a NICU for baby squirrels. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 So the machine cross stitched squirrel included in her crazy patch stocking<\/a> seemed appropriate.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Granddaughter\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel’s stocking <\/a>also features squirrels, since she has handled and nurtured them since she was a toddler.\u00c2\u00a0 This pattern is from the <\/p>\n Grandson Robert’s father is a pilot.\u00c2\u00a0 Naturally, when Robert was born, Ryan wanted the nursery decorated with an aviation\u00c2\u00a0 theme.\u00c2\u00a0 So was his stocking.<\/p>\n With all these stockings “hanging” around my sewing room, I can’t help but reminisce about Christmases past.<\/p>\n back of Ryan’s 1979 stocking<\/p><\/div>\n I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll never forget rushing to get stockings knitted for both children before Christmas 1979 arrived.\u00c2\u00a0 One-year old <\/span>Rebecca\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s name had more letters than would fit on the stocking.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>So I had\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>regraphed the duplicate stitch letters to make them more narrow.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n I knitted madly while my dear friend Rebecca, for whom my daughter is named, drove us to the mall in Daytona Beach to finish our Christmas shopping.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n At one point she looked over at the stocking and remarked, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know you spelled her name with two b\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>WHAT?????\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Rebbecca???!!!!\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Can you tell I was stressed when I was working on that stocking?<\/p>\n So when we returned home, I went back to the graph paper, picked out the stitches and finished the stockings Christmas eve. Rebecca\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s is much like Ryan\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s but with a doll on the front in place of the train.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It hangs now at her home, along with those of her husband, son and little daughter.<\/p>\n I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve always enjoy personalizing stockings for my children and grandchildren.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>But I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m glad to be finished with them.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n Now, moving on to Laurel and Vivian Rose\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Christmas dresses.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Hurrah!\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Now that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fun.<\/p>\n What are you sewing?\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n ~~~~~~~~<\/p>\n Nana Fun<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n At our PlayGroup Mamas <\/a>Christmas dinner this week, we dear friends, now all grandmothers, reminisced about the past.\u00c2\u00a0 After Gale told us how her granddaughter Alysha concluded that the Tooth Fairy must just “magic” herself in and out of the house, Judy retold one of our favorite tooth stories.<\/p>\n Her 5 year old son Bryan had a sleepover with his friend Matt who lost a tooth during their play time.\u00c2\u00a0 Matt eagerly put the newly freed tooth under his pillow and fell fast asleep.<\/p>\n Sometime later, Bryan awoke to see Joan, Matt’s mother, remove the tooth and place a quarter under his pillow.\u00c2\u00a0 Bryan said not a word.<\/p>\n When he returned home the next day, he rushed up to his mother.\u00c2\u00a0 “Mama, you are NOT going to believe this!\u00c2\u00a0 Joannie Falango is the tooth fairy!!!!”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Where\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Waldo?\u00c2\u00a0 Where has www.janicefergusonsews.com\u00c2\u00a0 been?\u00c2\u00a0 According to my savvy son-in-law, the problem was with my server.
