{"id":28750,"date":"2013-12-19T22:53:14","date_gmt":"2013-12-20T03:53:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=28750"},"modified":"2014-07-14T23:04:33","modified_gmt":"2014-07-15T03:04:33","slug":"christmas-dress-embossed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/19\/christmas-dress-embossed\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas Dress Embossed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_28752\" style=\"width: 548px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/L-arbor-ED.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28752\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-28752\" alt=\"Laurel, fighting off the passion vine\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/L-arbor-ED.jpg\" width=\"538\" height=\"1087\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/L-arbor-ED.jpg 538w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/L-arbor-ED-148x300.jpg 148w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-28752\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Laurel, fighting off the passion vine which is tumbling down the arbor<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hurrah!\u00c2\u00a0 The problems with my server seem to be resolved so <strong><em>Janice Ferguson Sews<\/em><\/strong> is back!\u00c2\u00a0 After all this time, I hope there are still a few readers left.\u00c2\u00a0 There are so many things lined up that I want to share with you.\u00c2\u00a0 This is the first.<\/p>\n<p>Granddaughter Laurel&#8217;s dress was meant to be just a church frock.\u00c2\u00a0 But when time got away from me, it was upgraded to her Christmas dress.\u00c2\u00a0 Nonetheless, she wore it to church the first Sunday of Dec. because I had nothing else made up for her.<\/p>\n<p>These pitiful pictures were taken in a rush after church and before Laurel had to hurry off to another event.\u00c2\u00a0 And if you think this photo is bad, wait until you see the others!\u00c2\u00a0 But they do show you the details of the dress.\u00c2\u00a0 I should have taken a minute or two to press her dress and sweep the walk.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30654\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/L-gate-top1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30654\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30654\" alt=\"L gate top\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/L-gate-top1.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/L-gate-top1.jpg 480w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/L-gate-top1-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-30654\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">bodice embossed with Embossed Frame Monogram Alphabet from Designs by JuJu<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>The bodice is burgundy cotton velveteen, the skirt a heavy poly silk.\u00c2\u00a0 The sleeves and neckline are bound with poly silk bias.\u00c2\u00a0 Since I first saw the embossed designs, I&#8217;ve been wanting to stitch one.\u00c2\u00a0 When planning this dress,\u00c2\u00a0 I realized the velveteen was a perfect fabric for this\u00c2\u00a0 technique.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The embroidery design is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designsbyjuju.com\/pscart\/mysearch.aspx?stext=embossed\"><em>Embossed Frame Monogram Alphabet<\/em><\/a> from Designs by JuJu.\u00c2\u00a0 By simply placing a sheet of water soluble stabilizer over the velveteen, the design manages to compress the area around the letter, much like stippling does in quilting.\u00c2\u00a0 The &#8220;L&#8221; is simply the base fabric velveteen bursting out above the dense cross hatch stitching around it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/b9eda1c8b46d5051aee2784a2ebf991a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28757\" alt=\"b9eda1c8b46d5051aee2784a2ebf991a\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/b9eda1c8b46d5051aee2784a2ebf991a.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/b9eda1c8b46d5051aee2784a2ebf991a.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/b9eda1c8b46d5051aee2784a2ebf991a-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/b9eda1c8b46d5051aee2784a2ebf991a-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The pattern is Martha Pullen&#8217;s <em>Pascale<\/em>, size 8.
