{"id":290,"date":"2009-08-14T00:53:43","date_gmt":"2009-08-14T04:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=290"},"modified":"2012-03-08T03:09:32","modified_gmt":"2012-03-08T08:09:32","slug":"alastairs-butterfly-blanket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/14\/alastairs-butterfly-blanket\/","title":{"rendered":"Butterfly Baby Blanket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Two things I dislike about my granddaughter&#8211;when she won&#8217;t take her afternoon nap, and when she won&#8217;t let me take mine.\u00c2\u00a0 ~Gene Perret<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-242\" title=\"butterflyblanketAl \" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/IMGP8697.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"473\" height=\"400\" \/><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This Swiss flannel blanket is one of my daughter Rebecca&#8217;s favorites for her baby Alastair.\u00c2\u00a0 It is embroidered with designs from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hatchedinafrica.com\">Hatched in Africa<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 The\u00c2\u00a0floral\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;C&#8221; \u00c2\u00a0is from their <em>Daisy Monogram<\/em> and the butterflies are from <em>Daisy Heirlooms 1.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-240\" title=\"butterflyblanketbflyclose I\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/IMGP8695.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"291\" \/><\/em><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00c2\u00a0The blanket is edged with a fabulous English lace that is sturdy enough to hold up to serious laundering and yet delicate enough to look good with flowers and butterflies.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The embroideries are interspersed with feather stitching.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12782\" style=\"width: 501px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/Butterflybabyblanketlace.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12782\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12782\" title=\"Butterflybabyblanketlace\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/Butterflybabyblanketlace.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"138\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12782\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">E-5 $2 py 1&quot; wide ivory<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The lace header is very wide, but I just trim it down to half its size.\u00c2\u00a0 The lace was placed on the blanket, with the right side of the blanket\u00c2\u00a0to\u00c2\u00a0wrong side of the lace,\u00c2\u00a0 matching the raw edge of the blanket to the decorative edge of the lace.\u00c2\u00a0A straight stitch\u00c2\u00a0was sewn\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0in the narrow header.<\/p>\n<p>The raw edged fabric under the lace is\u00c2\u00a0pressed\u00c2\u00a0toward the blanket center and\u00c2\u00a0away from the lace.\u00c2\u00a0 Then\u00c2\u00a0the lace is \u00c2\u00a0pin stitched over the fold, usually with a width of\u00c2\u00a02.5 and length of\u00c2\u00a02.5.\u00c2\u00a0 Finally, I cut away that 1\/2&#8243;\u00c2\u00a0raw edged excess fabric and give a final press.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0This makes for a very secure lace attachment.\u00c2\u00a0 This lace is available at &#8220;A Store&#8221; (see menu at right)..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">When I made this blanket, I thought it would be for a little granddaughter.\u00c2\u00a0 But ultrasound pictures made it clear that a baby boy was on the way.\u00c2\u00a0 That didn&#8217;t concern my daughter, God love her.\u00c2\u00a0 She\u00c2\u00a0adores the blanket and thinks, as do I, that it is just fine for her beautiful little guy.\u00c2\u00a0 Wisely,\u00c2\u00a0Rebecca did not feel the same about the pink, lace trimmed daygown that awaits her someday daughter.\u00c2\u00a0 There is still more fun in years to come!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/IMGP8694.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-239 aligncenter\" title=\"butterflyblanketC\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/IMGP8694.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"459\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Swiss flannel is a marvelous fabric for babies.\u00c2\u00a0 The weight is perfect year-round here in Florida.\u00c2\u00a0 The dainty nap is just enough to give a snuggle factor to the heirloom blanket.\u00c2\u00a0 It looks best when ironed, but neither of my girls (Rebecca and Laurel and Robert&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0mama, Shelly) \u00c2\u00a0iron them\u00c2\u00a0every time and\u00c2\u00a0still they look\u00c2\u00a0neat and sweet.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_318\" style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/butterfly-blanket.JPG\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-318\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-318 \" title=\"Butterfly Blanket\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/butterfly-blanket.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"574\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-318\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Butterfly Blanket<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Baby blankets are just a joy to make&#8211;no fitting, no buttonholes, no plackets, just all the lace and embroidery you want.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m off to make another.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two things I dislike about my granddaughter&#8211;when she won&#8217;t take her afternoon nap, and when she won&#8217;t let me take mine.\u00c2\u00a0 ~Gene Perret This Swiss flannel blanket is one of my daughter Rebecca&#8217;s favorites for her baby Alastair.\u00c2\u00a0 It is &hellip;
