If not needed, the upper MOP buttons will be removed.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With its cheerful colors and simple design, this dress just makes me smile. The combination of Liberty of London tanna lawn, blue gingham checks, and yellow whipstitch piping seems to chirp predictions of happy days filled with warm sunshine, blue skies, and colorful flowers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/smocking-up-close.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full smocking front and back makes <em>Katina<\/em> just the sort of cute and comfortable\u00c2\u00a0 frock I&#8217;d like my 14 month old granddaughter to wear all summer long.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption-text\">Katina back<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d like to have added a cute hairbow to the ensemble but Vivian Rose has expressed a very strong dislike for anything on her head&#8212;except for strawberries and other food she rubs in. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Sigh&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Of course, a pair of ruffle bottom bloomers was needed to finish the outfit.\u00c2\u00a0 The edges of the 2 1\/2&#8243; wide ruffles are serged with a 3 thread rolled edge, using wooly nylon in\u00c2\u00a0 the upper looper.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/bloomer-ruffles.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29678\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/bloomer-ruffles.jpg\" alt=\"bloomer ruffles\" width=\"800\" height=\"562\" OOP <em>Katina<\/em> pattern by Children&#8217;s Corner and all materials were pulled from my stash which makes me smile even more.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Liberty.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29675\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Liberty.jpg\" alt=\"Liberty\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Liberty.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Liberty-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There was not enough gorgeous Liberty of London tanna lawn for the entire garment, so blue gingham check was substituted for the hem, yokes and straps.\u00c2\u00a0 Ultimately, the gingham was not necessary but I\u00c2\u00a0 think it made for a sweeter little dress.<\/p>\n<p>Yellow whipstitch piping separates the hem from the skirt and trims the straps and yokes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/hemline-crop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29676\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/hemline-crop.jpg\" alt=\"hemline crop\" width=\"800\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/hemline-crop.jpg 800w, <em>Katina<\/em> was finished,\u00c2\u00a0 my daughter said she preferred a very short dress length because Vivian Rose always seems to be running and climbing.\u00c2\u00a0 The shorter length is better for her.\u00c2\u00a0 So three 1&#8243; tucks were taken to achieve the preferred length.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, they will be let out as she grows.\u00c2\u00a0 At this age, most babies do most of their growing in height, so this size 2 dress will probably be worn for more than a year.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m glad I didn&#8217;t know that the dress was to be so short before I cut it out or it&#8217;s likely I would have used Liberty for the entire garment.\u00c2\u00a0 I really like the use of contrasting fabric.<\/p>\n<p>The leftover Liberty consisted of nothing more than the armhole curve cutouts and a very narrow strip torn selvage to selvage to straighten the fabric.\u00c2\u00a0 That strip was trimmed for use on the legs of the bloomers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Katina-pattcr2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29711\" this happy little dress looks quite contemporary, the pattern and fabrics are vintage.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 This same pattern was used to make several dresses for my Rebecca, including this one. \u00c2\u00a0 Now, her daughter, Vivian Rose, wears it!\u00c2\u00a0 That was some powerful, long lasting polyester fabric.<\/p>\n<p><a and family as we celebrated Alastair&#8217;s 5th birthday.\u00c2\u00a0 More on that fabulous event in a later, but I want to include a few pictures of our sweet girl wearing some garments featured in earlier posts.\u00c2\u00a0 With all the festivities and Baby&#8217;s whirling dervish perpetual motion, I was unable to get her dressed in the new Katina for a photo.\u00c2\u00a0 But I caught these as
