but is less suitable for some of my favorite heirloom techniques like lace insertion substitution.<\/p>\n<p>Are you always trying something new?\u00c2\u00a0 Sometimes a &#8220;new&#8221; technique works out and other times it does not.\u00c2\u00a0 I was happy with the lighter finish to the armscyes, but the placket didn&#8217;t work out so well.\u00c2\u00a0 I won&#8217;t bore you with the details of that attempt, but the fix required a fold over much like Debbie Glenn&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/d1g2ywfo2nzexo.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/110-article.pdf?33616c\">Painless Placket.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30031\" style=\"width: 735px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/placket2.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30031\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-30031\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/placket2.jpg\" alt=\"placket\" width=\"725\" height=\"730\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/placket2.jpg 725w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/placket2-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/placket2-297x300.jpg 297w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 725px) 100vw, 725px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-30031\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bow covers lace tape placket repair stitches.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mindful of an heirloom sewing &#8220;rule&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 learned years ago, I had to cover those visible machine stitches.\u00c2\u00a0 Desperately short of time, I simply tacked a bow over the exposed stitches. I have every intention of stitching a bullion rose in its place after Easter&#8230;.hmmmmm&#8230;wishful thinking?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hem.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30032\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hem.jpg\" alt=\"hem\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hem.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/hem-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fancyband at the hemline of the slip skirt was a leftover from the dress.\u00c2\u00a0 After joining this lace to the dress skirt, I decided that a single row of insertion was better.\u00c2\u00a0 But I hated to waste the lace and fancy entredeux.\u00c2\u00a0 So I removed it with one of my favorite sewing room tools, an Olfa Art Knife.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30034\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Olfa-Art-Knife21.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30034\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-30034\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Olfa-Art-Knife21.jpg\" alt=\"Olfa Art Knife2\" width=\"800\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Olfa-Art-Knife21.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Olfa-Art-Knife21-300x124.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-30034\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">After it was removed from the dress, a band of regular entredeux and edging were added to the slip fancyband.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Releasing the lace from the fancy entredeux would have been a colossal effort without the use of the\u00c2\u00a0 art knife.\u00c2\u00a0 I will be forever grateful to Mildred Turner for introducing me to this great tool, as well as other gems of knowledge she shared with me.<\/p>\n<p>You can see that the header of the narrow insertion has been cut at the point where the art knife intersects it.
