There was a stiff breeze blowing and I could not keep the shirt hanging properly.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We always talk about how busy we are, but I have never let other things make me cut it so close with Easter outfits for the grandchildren.\u00c2\u00a0 Just like when my children were small, I was up until after midnight Saturday before Easter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/fcce2cd316459ae9d5566081d100ab97.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31364\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/fcce2cd316459ae9d5566081d100ab97.jpg\" alt=\"fcce2cd316459ae9d5566081d100ab97\" width=\"377\" height=\"739\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/fcce2cd316459ae9d5566081d100ab97.jpg 377w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/fcce2cd316459ae9d5566081d100ab97-153x300.jpg 153w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 377px) 100vw, 377px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But I finished all four outfits.<\/p>\n<p>Alastair&#8217;s Easter suit was a very satisfying project.\u00c2\u00a0 Like few hurry-up projects, it finished up quite nicely, leaving me\u00c2\u00a0 generally pleased.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I learned that sometimes surrendering my picky-ness for a rush project is okay.\u00c2\u00a0 It is more important to have an\u00c2\u00a0 OK outfit done for Easter than an up- to-my-picky-standards outfit done a week later.\u00c2\u00a0 This was made in about a day and a half, and those were busy days aside from sewing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/goods-A-suit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30128\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/goods-A-suit.jpg\" alt=\"goods A suit\" width=\"799\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/goods-A-suit.jpg 799w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/goods-A-suit-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/goods-A-suit-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 799px) 100vw, 799px\" \/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite big boy patterns, <em>Hudson&#8217;s Sunday Suit<\/em> by<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gingersnapsdesigns.com\"> Ginger Snaps Designs<\/a> is made up in an almost suit weight linen and trimmed with Swiss insertion, pale blue entredeux, and blue perle cotton.\u00c2\u00a0 The shorts are made from\u00c2\u00a0 quick and easy<a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrenscornerstore.com\/ccpattern4.html\"> Children&#8217;s Corner<\/a> <em>Jackson,<\/em> my go-to shorts pattern.\u00c2\u00a0 Blue pinfeather cord is the fabric used. Pale blue vintage MOP buttons close the shirt in the back.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30130\" style=\"width: 727px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/A-shirt-front.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30130\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-30130\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/A-shirt-front.jpg\" alt=\"A shirt front\" width=\"717\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/A-shirt-front.jpg 717w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/A-shirt-front-268x300.jpg 268w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 717px) 100vw, 717px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-30130\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The C monogram is from the Martha Pullen IEC alphabet for 2002.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>\u00c2\u00a0NOTE:\u00c2\u00a0 Erin asked about the embellishment under the C.\u00c2\u00a0 It is from an old Viking collection, Crown I,\u00c2\u00a0 set 1300, design orna5.\u00c2\u00a0 Some of the detail was edited out to simplify the design.\u00c2\u00a0 This is the original design.\u00c2\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Viking-Crown-Coll-1-orna5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35200\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Viking-Crown-Coll-1-orna5.jpg\" alt=\"Viking Crown Coll 1 orna5\" width=\"294\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The shirt is a heavy linen which worked especially well for my short time frame.\u00c2\u00a0 It was too heavy for a nice French seam, so the seams were serged.\u00c2\u00a0 Though I normally would have done the hem and back facing by hand, instead they were first serged and then machine stitched in place. \u00c2\u00a0 As it turned out, I found\u00c2\u00a0 this to be less offensive than expected.\u00c2\u00a0 The fine thread seemed to melt into the thicker linen. The pants will be re-hemmed by hand as soon as I get my hands on them again and I might as well do the shirt hem at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>Blue entredeux was inserted into the collar and along the sleeve cuffs. \u00c2\u00a0 The plan was to work a tiny crocheted edge through the entredeux holes, but that didn&#8217;t work out.\u00c2\u00a0 There was nothing in my stash that was both the right color and the right weight for that to happen.\u00c2\u00a0 So, rushed as I was, the only solution I could come up with was to work a buttonhole stitch through those holes with #8 perle cotton.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did\u00c2\u00a0 that take a long time, but it took a surprisingly huge amount of perle cotton.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I threaded my tapestry needle with what looked like miles of perle cotton and started at the back, where I always prefer to start so I can adjust my tension, etc. in a less conspicuous spot.<\/p>\n<p>But YIKES!\u00c2\u00a0 I ran out of perle cotton about an inch from the center front of the collar.\u00c2\u00a0 Ugh&#8230;.So the where I had to start with a new length of perle cotton is pretty obvious right there.\u00c2\u00a0 After all those buttonhole stitches, the blue entredeux is almost lost, but the holes served a purpose.<\/p>\n<p>By the time I got to the sleeves, I was determined not to run out of perle cotton.\u00c2\u00a0 The cuff measured 12&#8243; so I cut 90&#8243;.\u00c2\u00a0 When I finished, there were no more than 12&#8243; left over!\u00c2\u00a0 From now on, I will calculate 7x the length needed for this treatment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/A-sleeve-insertion.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30133\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/A-sleeve-insertion.jpg\" alt=\"A sleeve insertion\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/A-sleeve-insertion.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/A-sleeve-insertion-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sleeves were inserted with blue entredeux which I thought was a nice detail.\u00c2\u00a0 In my rush, it wasn&#8217;t a perfect job&#8211;note the area where the fabric of the entredeux shows.\u00c2\u00a0 But again, it was worth it to have the outfit done in time for Easter.<\/p>\n<p>In the sleeve insertion directions, there is a suggestion to make a pleat at the shoulder seam if you have trouble making gathers.\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have trouble with that, but as the clock kept ticking, I thought that would be quicker than running 3 rows of gathering stitches, distributing them, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 It was very quick.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30135\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/sleeve-pleat-r.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30135\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30135\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/sleeve-pleat-r.jpg\" alt=\"sleeve pleat in place of gathers\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/sleeve-pleat-r.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/sleeve-pleat-r-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-30135\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">sleeve pleat in place of gathers<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Alastair&#8217;s mother is having portraits taken of Alastair and baby Vivian Rose in their Easter finery.\u00c2\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to see them.<\/p>\n<p>Though I didn&#8217;t get the Easter Sunday photos I wanted, I did get this shot of the children.
