Laurel, out of the pool and ready for birthday cake<\/p><\/div>\n

Granddaughter Laurel recently celebrated her 10th birthday at a resort hotel. \u00c2\u00a0 Five of her closest friends and a few mothers had a big time enjoying all the activities and amenities typical of a resort hotel.<\/p>\n

For party favors, a pillowcase was embroidered for each girl.\u00c2\u00a0 I have been reluctant to post these photos because there is sooooo much puckering in the embroidery.\u00c2\u00a0 It was caused by operator error–my use of\u00c2\u00a0 inadequate stabilizer.\u00c2\u00a0 But the girls were absolutely non-judgemental and seemed to love their personalized gift.<\/p>\n

The “L” font is Loralie’s Loralesque<\/em>, with balloons substituted for the floral element.<\/p><\/div>\n

The plan was to provide pigma pens for the girls to write messages on the pillow slips, much like the old fashioned autograph books from my era.\u00c2\u00a0 But it was decided that the pillowcases were just too pretty to write on.\u00c2\u00a0 Ahhhhh…..<\/p>\n

Ava’s yellow broadcloth was trimmed with green rick rack.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

The quick and easy turn tube hem<\/a> method was used to apply the Happy Birthday fabric.\u00c2\u00a0 I just love this technique.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"lavender<\/a>

Alyssa got the lavender broadcloth with yellow rick rack.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

I love different fonts and really enjoyed using so many for the names.\u00c2\u00a0 My favorites are those collections which offer several size options in both upper and lower case. In many font collections, the letters A, L, J, S, and T are not easily recognized.<\/p>\n

Orange broadcloth with lavender rick rack was for Kylie.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Editing the designs to include the balloons was another part of this project that I enjoyed.<\/p>\n

Like Laurel’s embroidery, the “R” for Rachel is from Loralesque<\/em> by Loralie.\u00c2\u00a0 This is end-on-end fabric.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 What a mess of puckers!<\/p><\/div>\n

These pillowcases were nice stash-busters. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I need more projects like that!<\/p>\n

I love the Lulu<\/em> font from Martha Pullen, used\u00c2\u00a0 for\u00c2\u00a0 Regan’s “R”.\u00c2\u00a0 Her fabric is pastel pink broadcloth.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Laurel has been looking forward to her 10th birthday for a long time.\u00c2\u00a0 Somehow, crossing into the double-digit age range was a very big deal for her.\u00c2\u00a0 I’m so happy that I could participate by sewing these pillowcases for her big event.<\/p>\n
