Meanwhile, I did manage to sew up a little suit using a commercial pattern.\u00c2\u00a0 You know how those 5 for $7 patterns from\u00c2\u00a0 Joann’s stack up.\u00c2\u00a0 As always, I was in a hurry and grabbed the first one which would work.\u00c2\u00a0 I should have looked through my Children’s Corner and Michie patterns.\u00c2\u00a0 Some modification was needed to meet my vision for a fully lined project.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n This is an easy-care garment with polycotton gingham pants.\u00c2\u00a0 The Imperial broadcloth bodice is trimmed with a hand worked running stitch as well as that wonderful whip stitch piping from Farmhouse Fabrics<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I just love the look that piping gives.<\/p>\n The embroidered Baby Pooh and Friends<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 is from the Brother card\u00c2\u00a0 of the same name, though it is also available here<\/a> at ibroidery.com<\/a> where so many Disney designs are available for sale to anyone with a Brother machine with D at the end of the model, i.e.\u00c2\u00a0 PE 780D, Innovis 6000D, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 I just love this simple line drawing with its single splash of red on Eeyore’s tail.<\/p>\n The back is closed with red buttons.\u00c2\u00a0 As so often happens, the minute I went outside to take these pictures, the wind picked up and the sky grew dark and cloudy.\u00c2\u00a0 It was raining just seconds after I retreated to the house.\u00c2\u00a0 Bottom line–the shirt hangs crooked and I didn’t get a shot of the back.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh well.<\/p>\n NANA FUN<\/p>\n While our daughter and her husband are taking a week to move into a new home, Alastair is spending time with us.<\/p>\n He sewed bean bags–one all by himself!–and made a wooden toss target for them with Granddad in the workshop.\u00c2\u00a0 He was so proud of his projects.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Our son and his family joined us for Memorial Day.\u00c2\u00a0 At dinner we had a long\u00c2\u00a0 patriotic discussion about the meaning of the day and those who defended our country.\u00c2\u00a0 At church on Sunday, there was a moving tribute to those who have died defending our country.\u00c2\u00a0 With this topic fresh in their mind, after dessert Alastair and cousin Robert bravely defended their tree house by pelting Surinam cherries at imaginary foes. There were no casualties.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Even with a 4 year age difference, the cousins are such good friends.\u00c2\u00a0 Alastair idolizes Robert and Robert reciprocates by treating Alastair with protective, loving respect.<\/p>\n This reminds me so much of my grandchildren.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n Alastair missed a full week of Montessori VPK, so he attended Nana’s Homeschool.\u00c2\u00a0 He’s reading the same 1st grade book with which I taught his cousins to\u00c2\u00a0 read. Teaching a grandchild to read is an incredible thrill!<\/p>\n I can’t help but think how exciting it must be for a dear lady at church who has taught piano for at least 50 years to what must be 3\/4 of our community’s children.\u00c2\u00a0 For the last several years she has driven 95 miles once a week to give piano lessons to 11 of her grandchildren!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Hand writing take a lot of practice for a 5 year old.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00e2\u20ac\u0153To the uneducated an A is just three sticks.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p>\n The bannister was his normal route down the stairs….<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00e2\u20ac\u0153If possible, try to find a way to come downstairs that doesn’t involve going bump, bump, bump, on the back of your head.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p>\n …and he climbed the same giant cedar tree that his mother and uncle climbed when\u00c2\u00a0 they were kids.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p>\n The children splish splashed in the pool on that hot Memorial Day.\u00c2\u00a0 Having finished a great swimming course, Alastair was able to hold his own with Robert and Laurel at Marco Polo and all the horsing around.\u00c2\u00a0 No more swimmies for him.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We’ll be Friends Forever, won’t we, Pooh?’ asked Piglet. <\/p>\n At the end of yet another busy cousin day, Alastair spent the night at their house.\u00c2\u00a0 He fell asleep early, guarded by Apollo who adores children.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Piglet: How do you spell love? <\/p>\n We miss him already.\u00c2\u00a0 And as Pooh said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d It’s been such a long time since I have posted, but I’ve been having too much fun with 5 yo grandson Alastair to sit still and write.\u00c2\u00a0 He\u00c2\u00a0 has been with us for 10 delightful days.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 More on that below. … Continue reading <\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We’ll be Friends Forever, won’t we, Pooh?’ asked Piglet.
