<\/a><\/p>\nSome projects just seem doomed from the get-go.\u00c2\u00a0 This book bag for my homeschooled granddaughter\u00c2\u00a0is one of those.\u00c2\u00a0 It was cut out\u00c2\u00a08 weeks ago and has been pushed to the bottom of my to-do list again and again, because something else was more\u00c2\u00a0urgently needed\u00c2\u00a0or there was a problem with the bag that stopped me in my tracks.\u00c2\u00a0So I am happy just to have it completed finally.<\/p>\n

The schoolhouse embroidery design is from Sew Many Designs<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0Rolling into Autumn<\/em> collection.\u00c2\u00a0 I added the flag from the same site’s Little Scribblers<\/em> school bus design.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The applique monogram is the Polka Dot Font<\/em> from Five Star Fonts.<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0I just left off the dots.<\/p>\n book bag monogram<\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n The border design below the monogram is from Viking\/Pfaff\u00c2\u00a0Inspira Kids Edgings<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a terrific collection, with sets of designs that include both vertical and horizontal borders along with a coordinating design.\u00c2\u00a0 It is great for burp cloths and so many other things.<\/p>\n The bag is lined with the striped fabric and has a zippered pocket.\u00c2\u00a0 For the handles I used some strapping I had on hand and covered it with the quilted fabric.\u00c2\u00a0 But it was too thick to turn a tube so I simply folded over the edges and serged.\u00c2\u00a0 They look awful.<\/p>\n What have you used for handles?\u00c2\u00a0 Strapping would have worked if I had it in the right color.\u00c2\u00a0 But do you have any other suggestions for firm straps?\u00c2\u00a0 I’d love to hear about them or any other book bag tips.<\/p>\n Now that\u00c2\u00a0the book bag\u00c2\u00a0is finished, not to my liking, but finished nonetheless, I keep telling myself that this is not a project for\u00c2\u00a0a magazine or a class sample that requires near perfection.\u00c2\u00a0 It is a book bag and regardless of its flaws, it will carry books.\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel, bless her precious little heart, loves anything I make for her and offers no criticism.<\/p>\n Laurel in Nana's jungle with Hannah on the prowl<\/p><\/div>\n <\/p>\n This bag is made from the same multi colored strip and quilted red fabric\u00c2\u00a0that I used for\u00c2\u00a0her chair cover and pencil and marker bags<\/a> (see post “sewing for homeschool” ).
