{"id":31515,"date":"2014-10-10T06:00:48","date_gmt":"2014-10-10T10:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=31515"},"modified":"2014-10-15T15:35:15","modified_gmt":"2014-10-15T19:35:15","slug":"trick-or-treat-bag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/10\/trick-or-treat-bag\/","title":{"rendered":"Trick or Treat Bag"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/treat-bag.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31517\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/treat-bag.jpg\" alt=\"treat bag\" width=\"505\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/treat-bag.jpg 505w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/treat-bag-236x300.jpg 236w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This sparkly trick or treat bag is a sweet girlie spin on the holiday that is rife with ghoulish images.\u00c2\u00a0 What little girl doesn&#8217;t love feminine Minnie Mouse, on a broom no less, wearing a coral colored witch&#8217;s hat?\u00c2\u00a0 And do you know anybody who doesn&#8217;t love candy corn?<\/p>\n<p>This project began with a basic black tote 14&#8243; x 14&#8243;.\u00c2\u00a0 The side and bottom seams were opened first and then the <em>Trick or Treat<\/em> text was embroidered.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bag-top.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31519\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bag-top.jpg\" alt=\"bag  top\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bag-top.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bag-top-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since the embroidery unit was still attached, the next step was to hoop up orange felt and embroider Minnie as she sails past the moon. The design was inserted into one of the built-in frames on my Quattro.\u00c2\u00a0 The excess felt was cut away near the black satin stitching and the piece was put aside.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know how obvious it is, but I meant for this shield shape to suggest a belt buckle.<\/p>\n<p>After the embroidery was complete, a soap line (I use a sliver of bar soap) was drawn 5 1\/2&#8243; below the top and the bag was sewn backup.<\/p>\n<p>The construction was simple&#8211;the two skirts were individually seamed at the side then gathered together.\u00c2\u00a0 The gathers were draw up to fit the 28&#8243; circumference of the bag and the raw gathered edge was sewn to the soap line.<\/p>\n<p>For the &#8220;belt,&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 striped grosgrain ribbon was stitched to the orange burlap-like ribbon.\u00c2\u00a0 This was sewn over the raw edges of the gathered skirts.\u00c2\u00a0 Then the triangular buckle was stitched in place with monofilament thread.<\/p>\n<p>The ribbon and buttons on the straps were, for me, the finishing touches.\u00c2\u00a0 This little bag looks like a child&#8217;s dress.\u00c2\u00a0 But I doubt any little trick or treater will make that connection.\u00c2\u00a0 Sometimes, the fun is just for the creator.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bag-skirt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31520\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bag-skirt.jpg\" alt=\"bag skirt\" width=\"640\" height=\"431\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bag-skirt.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/bag-skirt-300x202.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course, I love fabric and find plenty of fun there.\u00c2\u00a0 With so many fun and charming Halloween prints today, inspiration comes easily.\u00c2\u00a0 The candy corn skirt fabric is all glittery, like sugar has been sprinkled on it.
