The sun and sea gulls were extracted from other designs in my library and added.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I got excited about the embroidery when Jerry Nix Roberts posted an adorable bubble with this design from\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abitofstitch.com\/shop\/item.aspx?itemid=166\"><em> Babies Beach Fun<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 by Bit of Stitch<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Terri Collins was also inspired by the design and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/11\/mountain-getaway\/\">made a Lucy almost identical<\/a> (scroll down to the bottom of the post) to the one I have copied so shamelessly.\u00c2\u00a0 After seeing Terri&#8217;s precious creation of a baby beach dress, I just had to make one for Vivi.<\/p>\n<p>I started with Children&#8217;s Corner Lucy pattern.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Lucy-patt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34711\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Lucy-patt.jpg\" alt=\"Lucy patt\" width=\"236\" height=\"344\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Lucy-patt.jpg 236w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Lucy-patt-206x300.jpg 206w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 236px) 100vw, 236px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First, the garment front was embroidered.\u00c2\u00a0 Then several modifications were made to the pattern. First, the hemline ruffle was eliminated and was instead\u00c2\u00a0 added to the Children&#8217;s Corner<em> Parker&#8217;s Pants<\/em> shorts.\u00c2\u00a0 For now, Vivian seems to prefer shorts to bloomers, so of course, that&#8217;s what her Nana made!<\/p>\n<p>Florida summers &#8211;which can\u00c2\u00a0 last until mid-October!&#8211;are just too hot for a lined garment.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 So the second modification was made to the lining.\u00c2\u00a0 l I love the ease of construction when garments are lined but opted instead to line only the bodice with cotton gingham.<\/p>\n<p>Without the complete lining,\u00c2\u00a0 the hemline had to be dealt with.\u00c2\u00a0 I surely wasn&#8217;t in the mood to handstitched it, so the skirt was turned up a scant 1\/2&#8243; and then serged.\u00c2\u00a0 Very near the serged edge, a gathering thread was stitched.\u00c2\u00a0 This was used to draw up the curved hemline when it was turned.\u00c2\u00a0 Finally, it was machine basted and then secured with a bean stitch.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_34712\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/1-hemline.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34712\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34712\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/1-hemline.jpg\" alt=\" The shirt tail hem is stitched in place with a bean stitch. \" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/1-hemline.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/1-hemline-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-34712\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The skirt&#8217;s shirt tail hem is stitched in place with a bean stitch.\u00c2\u00a0 The 1&#8243; turned up shorts hem is also secured with the bean stitch usig 12 wt. thread.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the needle, 12 wt. cotton thread was used.\u00c2\u00a0 The bobbin was wound with 50 wt. cotton.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The same stitch was used on the hem of the shorts and around the casing at the waist.\u00c2\u00a0 I really like that look and will probably use this technique on other play clothes.<\/p>\n<p>Parker&#8217;s Pants is a very nice pattern, with several lengths included.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_34717\" style=\"width: 472px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/6-13-Parker-front.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34717\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34717\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/6-13-Parker-front.jpg\" alt=\"CC Parker's Pants pattern\" width=\"462\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/6-13-Parker-front.jpg 462w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/6-13-Parker-front-300x255.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 462px) 100vw, 462px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-34717\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CC Parker&#8217;s Pants pattern<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now I&#8217;m eager to see Vivi wear this.\u00c2\u00a0 Her family has spent two separate weeks at the beach and now are back for the weekend.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a shame I didn&#8217;t have her &#8220;Lucy&#8221; ready for her visits to the Atlantic.\u00c2\u00a0 But there still is time for her to wear it.<\/p>\n<p>What are you sewing?\u00c2\u00a0 Back to school?
